I had to swap around the LOAD/SAVE, ENTER, |> buttons on my X7 because I had to press them really hard with switchs I hardly use, VLINK, SOLO SYNTH, PAD TRIGGER and ASSIGNABLE buttons.

Thought I would take some pics.

My X7 is working fine now after the swap....

What a great idea!!! I knew there would be a use for V link and solo synth..............

Did you have to resolder anything or just swap bits???

I have a question about the screen, it seems that on the inside of my screen, there is dust sticked to it. Is it possible to clean this? So can you dismantel that part easily and remove the display from the housing?
I had the same once with a VA76 ( I know, I play sometimes at dirty places ) and tried to dissasembe it to clean, but the screen part was so well mounted that it was impossible to reach the top. And I had to keep looking through the dust attached to it. What of course isn't that pleasant.
Maybe you have pictures of that too?

Yeah it's possible to clean. I did that too but did not take a pic of it though. It's simple.

I removed the screws that fasten the screen to the chasis of the keyboard and just blew off the dust with air form my mouth.
Don't use tissue or a paint brush it will leave minor scratches on the screen.(Did that years ago on my Yamaha PSR4000).

You can buy a can of compress air to blow off the screen, circuit boards and the chasis. Make sure to blow off the circuit boards before you close it back up in the event any particles from the screws came off while screwing them back in.

The screen it seems was not properly sealed off on these keyboards. Their is a black rubber outlining that is between the screen and keyboard that dust gets through and that's why you see it there...

If you have sweaty palms, don't open or try to repair the board. The salt from your sweat will affect the circuit boards.

I'm no Roland tech so you do all these things at your own risk.

In my country their is no Roland Dealership so I had no other choice but to do my own repairs.

Just make sure you plug back in every cable where it was. It is really simple to service this board..

My board works like brand new!!!

Problems with the Pitch Bender

3 Dec 2008, 07:56
I had some problems with the Fantom's Pitch bender in the past, as the pitch of "bendable" patches was always unstable, with the result of giving very annoying out-of-pitch sounds.

I opened my Fantom, dismantled the pitch bender section and cleaned everything with a contact cleaning spray, which solved the problem for some time.
Then, months after, the problem appeared again, so I cleaned it again.
It lasted for a couple of weeks, as the problem is now worse than ever, as the Variable resistor (Potentiometer) that controls the pitch bend is OLD and should be replaced (the problem is to find a similar one...).

Do you know of any store that sells these type of Variable resistors ? Does Roland ?

I don't want to send my Fantom for repair just because of this small problem...

Thanks in advance

You can call the closet Roland dealership to you and order the pitch bend part. It's the only way to go.

If it's broken replace it with the original..

That's the obvious (and EXPENSIVE) thing to do... exactly what I wanted to avoid. But thanks anyway

i don't think it will that expensive. Other people have ordered buttons from roland for only a few dollars a piece.
