Anyone have a service manual?

3 Dec 2008, 17:46
Wow, great pictures! A few of my buttons will need to be replaced soon and I've really been dreading it. I would love to see a service manual for this. Anybody have one?

Lang1977: Is there anything you have to be especially careful about when opening this up? Anything that can either kill me or Christine (my X6)?

Just as pre caution, touch some grounded metal object to remove any static electricity from your body. Make sure also to handle the boards at the side and your good to go...

@lang 1977, if possible, can you take a look at this thread? If you can provide any hints, help, tips, etc I'd really appreciate this.

In this thread, you show pics of the inside of the X, and the pic called "Circuit_Board_1.jpg" is what I want to look at in my board as that is the area causing me trouble.

Happy new year to all of the Roland Clan..I praise the Lord for another year...

Knokk Shopp, I read your post.

You can get to ''Circuit_Board_1'' by unscrewing the bottom of the X. You don't have to touch the side screws.

You have to remove the ''Main_Sound_generation_board'' and keyboard key bed to get to it. Don't be alarmed. Just take your time. The (X7) is easy to disassemble and reassemble.

From your post it sounds like the carbon contacts either on the circuit board or under the pad itself is not working either due to wear and tear or moisture (like spilt coffee or some liquid). When you open it do a physical examination.

If it's wear and tear on the pad, order that part from Roland. You can't fix that.

If it's coffee or some liquid residue, you could use A Fast-Drying Electrical contact cleaner to remove it. MAKE SURE the contact cleaner is NOT going to leave a thin oil residue. Take piece of tissue to remove the sprayed residue.

It could be also that the moisture on ''Circuit_Board_1'' damaged that board. In that case''Circuit_Board_1'' has to be replaced.

Again, I'm no certified Roland technician and in my country there is no Roland service centre so I do my own repairs and my board is functioning well.

keyborg have you bought and used the service manual?

If so is it worth buying?

My x8 is over 3 years old and some of the buttons have been playing up. I plan on keeping this keyboard for life even if I upgrade in the future. So repairing this thing will be a definite at some stage.

let me know how you get on with it Keyborg.

The Canada link doesn't work and the other one has expired. But if the manual is any good I'll do a search for an x8 one.

I don't know why, but I am reminded of a song!

Death Cab For Cutie Death Of An Interior Decorator

you were the mother of three girls so sweet
who stormed through your turnstile
and climbed to the street
but after conception your body lay cold
and withered through autumn and you found yourself old

can you tell me why you have been so(sad)

he took a lover on a faraway beach
while you arranged flowers and chose color schemes

can you tell me why you have been so sad?
can you tell me why you have been so sad?

the girls were all there
they traded their vows
the youngest one glared with furrowed brows
they tenderly kissed then cut the cake
the bride then tripped and broke the vase
the one you thought would span the years
so perfectly placed below the mirror
arriving late you clean the debris
and walked into the angry scene

it felt just like falling in love again
and it felt just like falling in love again

can you tell me why you have been so sad?
can you tell me why you have been so…

. . . I guess that would explain the colour scheme! =)

Servise Manual

29 Jan 2009, 14:52
Finally I got Servise Manual. It has not too many words, but pictures are pretty clear. It has wiring diagramms, schematics, PCB layouts and aasemblys for all PCboards. There are part lists and disassembly guide. I used it already to fix broken solder joints of one of the assignnable knob.
Disassembly went prtetty smooth.
