srjv80 to SRX patches

I'm sorry...

3 Oct 2007, 15:22
Hi Paolo,

I'm sorry... I didn't use the right names for it...
but never the less, here is the link from where
I got my copy:

http://freespace.virgin.net/jr.bowden/programs.htm

PS: I did manage to convert without any program-errors but next week I will be able to upload them into my JUNO-G and test it for real. Maybe you might need to alter choosed waveforms.

Does anyone here has converted the srjv80 patches that came with the included CD in the SRX boards to Fantom X patches?

let the music be with you!!!
Yes!

Extract the zip files, this gives you midi files

Then open up librarian and File, import smf.

Once the smf has loaded, click preview to send it to the Fantom.

Once it has appeared on the Fantom at USER 001 go to patch edit and change the Wave Group (wg) from SMPL to EXP.

Then if you like the patch save it

Just found out it doesnt work with every patch! 1 in 10 so far dont sound

Yes . This is exactly what I did with my Juno-G .
But it does not work for every patch .
My success is 6 out of 10 so far .
WHY ?????

adje, rogerp1, jkon,
thank you very much!
I'll try all suggestions and report my findings.
I actually gave up long ago about the possibility to import JV patches into the Fantom X. I am still converting my old custom made JV patches manually, and it does take time!
The sound structure (i.e. patch parameters) of the machines (JV/XP, XV, Fantoms) are very similar, so no excuses for Roland for not having implemented internal routines for automatic conversion (IMHO, of course).
Bye

I'm not in front of my Juno-G at the moment but as I can recall it's the "Blues Perc" patch one of them.
Tomorrow I can post a more complete list of the "silent" patches.

The procedure works !

Hi all,

Just wanted you to know that the procedure to convert patches from JV/XP/XV to Fantom/JUNO-G works as described
earlier in this thread. Sometimes you just need to select a better waveform and MFX.

Good luck.

This works fine for most sounds. The bad thing is that fantom doesn't have the same waveforms as jv/xp/xv,so many of the sounds need to redirect to a simillar or any other waveform sounds nicer.I guess that Roland kept all good jv/xp/xv waveforms off from fantom to use them to srx cards.Even some waveforms that have the same name ,they sound different.Anyway, that is marketing....What i forgot to say is that there is another way too to convert the patches ,just using a sysex utility, like '' Bome's SendSX. for example: any xp's sysex command starts with F0 41 10 6A 12 03.....So,when you open the sysex, change this command to :F0 41 10 00 6B 12 1F........This command is usualy 4 times in a patch' sysex, one for every tone.change it and you are done.
Another thing i noticed,is that any way you convert a patch, with utilities or with sysex commands, sometimes some patches maybe sound like detuned .in that case try to switch to another chorus effect.also if some patches doesn't sound ok try to increase the mfx level out.it happens veru often to be at zero after the convertion.Good luck...!!

No luck so far...

Hi there, I have tried the procedure as described by Rogerp1 but it simply did not work for me. I wonder what is wrong... I get to the point in which the supposed SR-JV patch appears on the Fantom at USER 001, but it keeps sounding like the piano patch originally there. Changing the Wave Group (wg) from SMPL to EXP on patch edit does not help either.

Are you guys sure it is indeed possible to retrieve the SR-JV patches on the Fantom X at all??

Works for me I have used it for SRX07 and SRX08 on a Fantom Xa and on the X6.

What version of librarian are you using?

First of all thanks for answering. I am using Version 2.10 of the Librarian, which is what came in my X7's CD.

I wonder if there is any catch in the process, or anything I am doing wrong... for the record, I also tried following the instructions found on the SRX manual, playing the .smf files found on the SRX CD on Cakewalk, but to no avail.

If all else fail, and not wanting to abuse your goodwill, would you be able to post a MIDI file containing the converted files for the SRX-07 card? I ask because if indeed you managed to load these patches in your Fantom X you could make it write the USER bank down to a MIDI file which would be loadable by all other poor users like myself.

The other thing that makes me mad is that now it is not even possible anymore to find an operational patch editor that is able to read my old XP-30 data. If only I could find one, I would be able to reproduce (manually, one by one...) the marvelous user patches and performances I saved as MIDI files.

"...to find an operational patch editor that is able to read my old XP-30 data..."

ChangeIt! soft editor reads Roland JV/XP family SysEx.

Re: srjv80 to SRX patches

I installed ChangeIt, but to no avail. You see, all I have is a MIDI file containing the User Patches and Performances dumped from my old XP-30.

ChangeIt does not even "see" these MIDI files, and thus cannot do what I wanted to do, that is, somehow list/illustrate the patches (waveforms, settings, etc.) and performances in a manner that would allow me to manually reproduce them in my Fantom X7.

Thanks for trying to help anyway. In the meantime I'll keep looking for a software that can "read out" the parameters from a MIDI file format.

I am using librarian 1.53 so it might be an idea to install 1.53 just to see if it works.

Both my Xa and X6 are version 1 firmware rather than version 2 although I am anticipating the upgrade in the post and will retry the procedure when I have version 2.

Not sure about the midi file thing. If you can think of an easy way to do it I might be willing when I get some spare time. The problem is the time really as I would have to write every patch to my user area, then edit every patch and save as midi. I found that not every patch worked also.

I could write all the patches to the user area and save as midi file unedited just to see if you could then edit them yourself as a quick experiment?

My SRX 07 board is in slot C so my edited patches would only work on your system if your board was also slot C

Try the fxl I have attached I can double click the patch which adds it to user001, I can patch edit and change the wave group and wave bank and it works perfectly. Try it and let me know how you get on
