Juno-G: made in Japan

19 Nov 2006, 11:58
Hey all!

A while ago we got confused by the fact that Juno-G's case had "made in China" covered by a "made in Japan" sticker. Just to clear all doubts, I made a photo of the main board. Also the plastic on the enclosure is similar to the one on the SH-201 so it really seems like the enclosure itself was made in China and the rest of the synth in Japan.

And here is the "WX" chip, the same one used in Fantom-X series:

No no, fix-san, do not worry - I made this photo simply with the SRX/DIMM lid open.

I guess it was never the question if main parts like main board or chips were made in Japan but where was final assembley. And that can vary. Same like with cars.

Actually most of the workers in many assembly factories in Hamamatsu area are Brazilians, among them many are Nikkei-Brazilians with Japanese ancestors, but Brazilian culture and can't speak Japanese. Hamamatsu in fact is the largest concentration of Brazilian community in Japan. This is followed by Peruvians and Filipinos. They are all recruited overseas to work temporary in Japan. Though a few immigrate here.

The factories managers and engineers are Japanese.

Not just Roland, but Yamaha, Toyota and many other companies manufacturing are concentrated from Hamamatsu in western Shizuoka prefecture, to neighboring Aichi prefecture such as Toyohashi and Toyota City itself, all the way to Mie prefecture. This whole area is called Tokai where many foreign workers live.

@Artemio, you're welcome dude! :)
@riddimski, i love unagi! maybe im unadon maniac (^_^; especially since getting more hot and humid, but today had great weather though.
@V-CeeOh, instead of "Juno-san" you can call it "Senhor Juno em japao" ;)

Actually ha um carnival anual grande em Hamamatsu, e muitas Brazilian ladies que se vestem nos bikinis muito sexy, estao dancando o samba in the streets :D And the restaurantes do churrasuco ao redor aqui demasiado. sorry, meu portugues nao e assim bom ;)

Anyway, many people think "Made In Japan" means only japanese people made it. Well maybe until the 80s, but after the 80s japanese society changed a lot. At the end of the 80s most japanese no longer wanted to work in factories, so many companies had a labor problem and started to hire lots of workers from developing countries.

Foreign workers wanted these jobs because they could earn a lot more money than in their country. They send their yen salary back to their country to make a profit from the exchange rate, and can buy land and build a house or whatever in their country.

Japanese products that are "Made In China" are cheaper than "Made in Japan" because cost of running a factory in china is cheaper than japan. Though the situation is the same, since Japanese design the products and manage the factories, while non-Japanese workers are the ones actually putting the products together.

Theres many nationalities living in Japan, its multicultural, Koreans, Chinese, Brazilians, Peruvians, Filipinos, Russians, Iranians, Israelis, Indians, Pakistanis, Nigerians... Each can be found in different sectors of the labor economy, like Chinese work in textile factories, Pakistanis are exporting used japanese cars overseas, Israelis are selling jewelry in the streets, Africans who cant speak english are pretending to be black americans and selling hip hop clothes, and some Filipino and Russian women are working in the "night industry" if you know what i mean ;) theres many kinds of situations.
Its called "globalization of labor capital" and of course some social problems will result from these situations, but thats another story! Btw, i studied some political-economics ;)
