Good to hear that it all worked out.
I work with midi files frequently, Mostly free ones from the web.
here's what I always do first.
Load the file onto my smartmedia card and insert into Fantom
Select preset performance GM
Go into song list and load midi file into internal memory.
Press play.
after a few bars stop the file.
Now I have a mixer with the appropriate GM sounds I go into the sequencer (song edit on x series) and edit track. I remove all Program Changes And All Exc data (on all tracks and all midi channels) in the ERASE menu and, depending on if I hear fades etc., usually the control changes too (to avoid instruments changing their volume levels...)
Save Song! Literally. Save it as an SVQ NOT as a midi file. Do this often.
Now I have a song with approximately the right sounds and no surprises that I can mess with for a few hours to substitute better sounds (save song) and indeed edit the musical programing if neccesary. (save song)
Good luck.
P.S. Midi files from the net should be auditioned with an eye on how they have been programmed musically and not on what cheesy sounds play over your PC sound card. The musicianship is EVERYTHING.
Save song.
Hehe.
