How do you set a song file to open with the same performanc

How do you set a song file to open with the same performanc

I have imported a midi file and saved it as a song file and deleted the control change messages but each time I open the file, it doesnt open with the performance settings I was using. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do you set the song file to open with the same performance each time?

Are you saving songs as .svq or .mid? I use .svq and the song is loaded each time with performance used to create it. I've never created a song from a midi file, so I'm not sure if you can import a midi file and create a song and save it as a .svq. Maybe set-up your performance and write it to memmory, and save song as .svq in that order *shrugs*

i imported a .mid file, opened in on my fantom, and saved it as a .svq file.
everytime i open the newly edited and saved .svq file, it opens with a blank performance of just pianos, instead of the performance i used to edit it
i read something about deleting control change messages when i searched in the posts, so i tried that but it didnt work.

You need to go to micro edit and see if there are any program/bank change messages at the beginning of the file. If so, bust them all! :-D

You should also check for sysex messages. Since you imported the midi file you most certanly have a GM or GS Reset message at the beggining of the song. If so, this sets all parts to piano.

Could not afford the 8.
Listen to what I've done with the 7

1..turn off the GM switch on ur midi tab inside the system menu...

2.. most important ...save ur performance n then save ur song too...(SVQ)

3. next time open the svq and the song will be linked with ur performance....

Good to hear that it all worked out.
I work with midi files frequently, Mostly free ones from the web.

here's what I always do first.

Load the file onto my smartmedia card and insert into Fantom

Select preset performance GM

Go into song list and load midi file into internal memory.

Press play.

after a few bars stop the file.

Now I have a mixer with the appropriate GM sounds I go into the sequencer (song edit on x series) and edit track. I remove all Program Changes And All Exc data (on all tracks and all midi channels) in the ERASE menu and, depending on if I hear fades etc., usually the control changes too (to avoid instruments changing their volume levels...)

Save Song! Literally. Save it as an SVQ NOT as a midi file. Do this often.

Now I have a song with approximately the right sounds and no surprises that I can mess with for a few hours to substitute better sounds (save song) and indeed edit the musical programing if neccesary. (save song)

Good luck.

P.S. Midi files from the net should be auditioned with an eye on how they have been programmed musically and not on what cheesy sounds play over your PC sound card. The musicianship is EVERYTHING.

Save song.

Hehe.
