When did you hear about this update?

And what version is it?

I'm not quite sure how to respond to your question.

Hi Bassman....

No I did not hear about any update.... I am just asking about it to see if someone know if Roland is working on any fixes/improvements.

Funny, but I was going to ask the same thing...

Seeing how often the Roland MV8000 gets upgrades(3.0, mostly useful upgrades, not just bug fixes), why doesn't roland keep it up with X?

Here's to 2.5 already... Or even 3.0 (free to 2.0 owners).... blah blah blah

What makes the MV, for example, a more important machine then the X?

Why R&D, why?

"Why R&D, why?"

No, correct is:

Why, marketing section, why?

Spoundstar... That's what I do not understand neither. All the other models have continuous updates except from the Fantoms.

Maybe Roland thinks that doing updates for the Fantom X will scare new clients away since the Fantoms are and have the reputation of being almost perfect.

But from my point-of-view I think it will hurt them less if they fix the minor issues right away instead of leting it melt.

This is a great product...

My opinion,

Its because of the next Fantom!

Really.

I think the next fantom will have everything to compete against what ever korg and yamaha have up their sleeves.

Sorry Musikman4Christ but I disagree. I think that Roland it's not going to kill it's own product this quick.

The Fantom X's toke a couple of years to be released/developed after Fantom S's. So I still believe there is at least one entire full year before Roland even anounce (Not release) any new synth to replace the X lineup.

They have to make sure they have take all the Juice out of the X's. (From a marketing point of view).

The only way will be when the current Korgs and Yamahas are selling better than the X's and so far that's not the issue here.

God bless by the way :)

What really gives the FX an edge over the other two is that it has up to 8 tracks of Digital audio recording. So you may be right. I think a nice touch screen would be awsome! and an ADAT output to be able to send up to 8 channels of digital audio from the FX to PC would truly rock!

I am not that crazy with the touch screen... It looks/sounds like a nice feature but in fact I do not needed at all.

It could be very tedious to work If you have big fingers. (Which I don't by the way :))

Also I have a few friends who own the Korg Triton and to one of them (Who does a lot of sequencing) the touch screen got damaged just by using it.

The ADAT input/output could be a nice addition.

But I think too that Roland can do several adapters to go via the CF card or USB port to help on improvements/features.

next Fantom:

more EFX
bigger/more pads
more knobs/sliders
improve synth engine (include a VA at least) but make it backward compatible with XV patches
suquencing/sampling more like a computer DAW
faster loading/saving/manipulating samples
more arps
maybe a little V-Synth Le included

THIS Fatnom, Before the Next Fantom:

improve file structure (more like a PC and less like a computer from the 70s).
improve naivigation (use pads for category search, make menus navigable top-bottom bottom-top, etc.)
make patches savable in any sequence ... for example, why are SRX sounds placed last? They should be first if you so choose.
-- more locations to save patterns, performance ... the limitations here make no sense ... the data involved is so small ... I think it's just Roland's laziness at not coming up with a proper file structure like a PC

I'll be very angry with Roland if they don't fix these things on the X -- and if somebody shoots back these are known issues whatever and you bought the synth with its cards on the table -- fine -- but these are not things you notice when demoing it the store or reading reviews online ... it only when you're using it every day that you begin to realize Roland could have/should have done several things better and still could/should address them ..

Hummm.....
I have not see your monstrousity jet showing up even on the competitors like Korg or Yamaha....

I think you haven't have your synth attached to your PC... or maybe you do not have or use the right software product.

Use or take a look to Flstudio then...

I do not need complexibility with more pads neither more knobs or sliders.

Why more arps when you can create your own???
Sequencing/sampling??? no other synth does like this one.

About the faster loading and sample manipulating I have to agree with you. This will be something that could be better. But it's not a killer for me.

"Monstrosity jet?" Where are you from?

Most synthesists would agree more knobs and sliders are a good thing to control parameters in real time. And I, sir, enjoy complexity as long as there is a payoff.

Arps? Why does Korg have two? My $350 Alesis Mircon's arps are limited only by its polyphony. That's how the Fantom should be. Period.

The Fantom X should be the ultimate in flexiblity and doing things on the fly. I don't want to have to create an arp I like, save it, then play it again. I agree that RPS can work here, but I don't really like RPS, and the Fantom is a flagship workstation and should not ship with BS limitations.

"Flexibility" is the word I saw in one of the Fantom X's print advertisements, and it should apply to its arp section as well.

The rest of your post is indecipherable. Is English a second language for you?

Of course, I have my Fantom connected to my PC, and I use Cubase. But as much as possible, I prefer working on my Fantom. As far as musicality goes, the more you can do away from the computer, I think, the more you're going to be playing notes/chords/i.e. real music instead of just mousing around, sequencing notes and tweaking paramenters.

I think we can all agree though, deep down, we love our Xs.

Roland just has a little work still left to do on it. This is a premium product and I will not buy the sucessor to the Fantom if Roland doesn't take the X as far as it can go with what's already inside of it.

BTW, I'm hardly the only one with these legitimate gripes.

YES... Sorry if dissapointing you... I do not think I got to go to Hardvard to post on this forums... I think Artemio and Mr. Kakehashi would agree too. :)

I can understand your frustrations but Roland has other models maybe better suited for your needs and in this case we where only discussing about the Fantom Lineup.

I agree that everything in life can be better and appreciate your honest post about loving your Fantom X as well as I do.

But trashing it without letting new users know the massive enjoyment you have with it is selfish. :)

Do not take it personal... I hope somewhere a Roland exec is reading this notes and take them in a positive matter that benefit all of us.
