KORG OASYS not all that.

First, I don't consider myself to be a Keyboard Player. Secondly the biggest thing these two boards(the Roland Fantom X, and the OASYS) offer me, are the audio tracks, and the drum pads.

I own two Fantoms, a FantomS, and a Fantom X88. But I'd still like to add an Organ Modeler one day........ it's already in the Oasys.

The Oasys also has real VA, not that big a thing for me.

But the Oasys has all this, in one package, tightly integrated.

I only say this, to say I don't believe the Oasys is overpriced. Stack all this gear up, and you're already in it for $8000, if you buy just a Fantom X, and VS2400...... or darn close.
That tight integration is one of the reason i valued the FantomX88 over the Motif8 ES...... with the same cost factor....

Kurzwiell are selling their gear for $4000-$5000 all day long. And they offer less, IMHO than the Fantom.

Sound Quality, feel, durabilty, construction....... the Fantom is very much professional...... The OASYS in no way challenges that. The OASYS is professional in it's own way, and in more ways than the Fantom. Organ Modeling, VA synthesis, harddisk Recorder, sliders, knobs........

I'm not saying the O is more professional than the Fantom. Doctors & Nurses both are Professionals..... one has more utility than the other, depending on what you need.

Well so far I am not complaining about the software upgrades for the Fantom x. It has not let me down yet.

Well greetings there folks. After all this time Ive finally registered myself to this site.

Ive had my Fantom X8 v2 for a good eighteen months now and I really love the thing. Its a great product, one of the best worksations Roland has produced. Its sampling and sequencer implementation are superb and it has some wonderful sounds.I am extremely happy with it,its a workhorse and I dont utilise it enough if I'm honest. Its range of sounds with the two expansion boards I have loaded is fantastic.

Now then my reason for making the above statement is to show that i'm not taking any sides here what so ever.Ive been playing for a long time, had many pieces of hi tech gear and pride myself on respecting anything that does the job of making music a joy.

Now then,I also own a Korg OASYS 76 and not to take anything anyway from the Fantom but you cannot compare the two I'm afraid. They dont compete with one another. In the UK its £5000 + and you get what you pay for.No offence to anyone who has not sat down with an OASYS in a closed enviroment but making judgements on this "Instrument" from just 30 mins shop demo's or DVD's is not doing yourself or the O justice. There are aspects of the OASYS in which I think the Fantom does compete and maybe even surpass, the sequencer for one,the way it handles its Audio data in certain aspects of operation but from a sonic point of view the OASYS virtually beats the Fantom in every way when it comes to sound production. The Roland piano sound has always been a fave of mine but dont think for a minute that the OASYS cant match it.Its different but not worse, some aspects of its articulation are better. The damper layer is gorgeous.Strings,Brass,Synthy textures,Basses,E piano's,Percussion all benefit from the O's supreme internal archtechture, its just a bigger sounding beast. The HD-1 engine is leaps ahead of the competition, its not a Triton souped up,its way way better,I should know,I part exed my Triton ST76 for the O and have just finished transfering my old patches into the O.The difference is unbelievable so I have hands on experience of comparing the two side by side.

Now ive not even mentioned the AL-1,or the CX-3 and STR-1.These alone are amazing instruments but then when you start combining them in Combi's with HD-1 patches plus bring in Wavesequencing,Vector Synthesis and then 2nd Generation Karma,it all becomes far more advanced than a Fantom could ever be,or any other worksation for that matter.

And finally I have to speak about control and realtime playing.I can honestly say you will never come across an electronic "Instrument" with such vast realtime control of sounds at your fingertips. It truly is outstanding.

You see like I said I love Roland products, the Fantom is great but I also love products by any manufacturer that enables a musician to make the best possible music they can.Yes the OASYS is dam expensive but dont think for a minute that Korg are trying to rip people off with some kind of repackaged old technology and revamping old product lines. All aspects of the OASYS' sound and features have been enhanced. The only one main area for more improvement is the Seq.Trust me when I say is its definatley £5000+ worth of kit but you get what you pay for,I understand its way beyond most peoples budget.

Believe you me though the OASYS is all that.

Most performers/composers/players have made the decision that the ratio of what-you-get to what-it-costs is just not there for the Oasys. This has been proven out on many other Internet keyboard forums. Perhaps after the eventual price drop, potential buyers will take the time to re-evaluate it, perhaps not. In the meantime, the vast majority of purchasers are more than happy to vote for Yammy/Roland/various softsynth options with their checkbooks.

I dont think that the Oasys is out of reach for many of the people of this forum, this forum surely consists of people who are able to purchase an Oasis without a worry but refuse to purchase one anyway. I have just seen a fantastic software packege which is $790AU about 400 US ABLETON LIVE 5 now this is an all in one studio with unlimited sequencer tracks audio recording ETC..... add some other plug ins /fantom X /k2661 and there you have it.

YES Fantomkurzweiler the K2661 is an animal
not only does the K2661 sound hot and can doo some outstanding acrobatics with those hot sounds it is also compact and it looks great and it has class. Very nice design. It is a great companion for the Fantom.

The reality is that 'Most performers/composers/players' that you refer to don't have $8000 to spend on 1 board.
And then you have the usual 6 Internet addicts that prowl the music foums with their ' theory' that Oasys isn't worth it
hoo--hum.. This is old news from a year ago. a pure case of Oasys envy. And the 6 folks that are uninformed and don't have much to offer than noise

I would rather have the blend of different approaches of sound design by 3-4 different manufacturers than have 1 approach by one company. I would prefer not to put all my eggs in the one basket.

Cake? Oasys envy?

Very bourgeois...proof's in the pudding boys. Real musicians don't hop forums trying to show off their bling...they make music. And until I hear some golden tunes from your bling boards, I'll consider you to be more about flaunt than music.

Respect dropping rapidly...

If I had $8000 to spare for a keyboard/workstation....I would mos def pick up the Oasys...

But it is a fact (at least I think) that most people in these forums/and others...cannot simply afford $8000 for a keyboard. Nothing wrong or shameful about that. Just look around a bit...many saved everything they could for months/year just to afford a $1500 Fantom X.....

Hey jahrome,

Good to hear from you again. Are you back in the States or still in Japan? 'Yeah!' to whatever your last post says.
