Replace contact strips - renew keybed?

Replace contact strips - renew keybed?

When playing some of the keys seem "off". For example when I play a D7 on 3rd inversion, the E and D keys are not really audible when I play with a full band. I know that on other keyboards (a crappy old Yamaha) I can make this arpeggio sound OK. So - I think the problem is the keybed.

The device is not new, its battle tested.

I got a quote to replace the contact strips, which with labor should be almost 50% of the used device. So, I declined. BUT

Has anyone replaced the internals of the FA06 and got good results? Should I replace the rubber? or the springs?

Keyboard contacts will eventually wear out if you hang on to your gear long enough and/or play hard. It's kinda like owning an acoustic piano. Every so often you have to throw money at it to maintain them. (Tuning/regulating, etc)

I've replaced contacts in numerous keyboards I've owned over the last 50 years. Sometimes I've paid to have it done and other times I've done it myself. DYI is not hard, but you usually have to take most of the keyboard apart to get at the contact strips, so keep that in mind if you decide to tackle the job. I've never had to replace springs. It's always the rubber contact strips, and once replaced the problems with certain keys were always solved. I've never have to replace all of them. Usually just a few. Those rubber contact strips are cheap. It's the labour having it done that costs $$$.

I haven't looked, but you may want to search YT or the Net in general for a related repair video. I've found some in the past that showed me exactly what I needed to know in order to fix a particular keyboard.

Might want to open it up first and see if it's just "gunked up" and needs some cleaning. If any little bit of dirt/dust gets under the contacts, they'll start to act up. Sometimes that helps.

I feel I should chime in. I have a dead F2 key on my FA08. I had replaced the rubber contact switches on my RD-700 and it was pretty easy so I opened up the FA08. Turns out the switches are part of the circuit board and cannot be changed without changing the whole circuit board. I think there are 3 circuit boards, lower, middle & upper (or maybe only 2). The circuit boards were not expensive - under $100 but not available anywhere (out of stock). I play rock and missing that key is not a big problem, but it still bothers me a little.

So the question is - where can I buy the parts? What is the part number? Apparently I only need the rubbers.
