SRJV presets converted to Fantom X and S

Now that i tested all 12 librarys i am so impressed. Everything works fine.

Sure i know i can not tell if the patches really sound 100% exactly (what they cant because of other waveforms in fantom x) the same as in the XV or JV, they sound perfect to me, Much much better than when i changed waveforms and sfx by hand.
Whats the best: The patches use the srx cards automatically, i dont have to change a slot for the srx expansion.

Now i hope we can get the missing SRJV-Patches Country, Session, SuperSoundset, Special FX.
I knwo the SRX doesnt have all waves from this srjv-cards, but when i compared e.G. Country with srx-9 i have seen almost all waves are there.

SRX-06 is subtitled "SR-JV80 Collection Vol.1", so I doubt any SRX boards prior to #6 have additional patches of this kind; although I'm happy to be proved wrong. :)

Now to convert the SRX-08 patches to use internal waves as I don't have that SRX card.

Thanks for this Royce, it's an awesome contribution to the ongoing life of the Fantom S/X.

Hi,
years ago I put here (6. post from top):
http://forums.rolandclan.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=23392
the link to download my complete Fantom X presets + Roland-converted XV patches file in fxl format. Of course, GM patches were missing (GMs are not editable in Fantom X). Would you be so kind to consider converting XV GM patches to Fantom X patches? Should you need the patches, I can send you the JV-1080/XP80 etc. GM patches in sysex format.

Thanks!

Paolo

Holy Cannoli, Batman! I'm amazed that someone saw this project all the way through. I thought that Roland might when they released the 4 banks of XV sounds for the Fantom-S/X but they kind of dropped the ball. I'm running 4 SRX boards (Ultimate Keyboards / Supreme Dance / Platinum Trax / World) + the William Coakley New York & Hamburg Steinways, so my Fantom X8 is the heart of my compositions, and sometimes the only keyboard I power up. My Kurzweil is so jealous.

Wich Program did you write, is this Software possiple to get? It would be a big value for averybody who wants to convert XV-Patches.
Many Thanks

The conversion program was written be me in C++.
For those that are unaware, there are really a couple of different ways to write programs.
The first is when you set out to write something that will be use many time by many people, which takes a lot of time to code.
The other way is when you are just trying to get something done. These programs are much quicker to write.
This second type of program is messy and ugly but as long as you drive it the way it was written it is OK otherwise ...?
As I was just trying to convert the presets for myself (in fact only SRX-09 and SRX-06) my program was written just to get this job done.

It is not suitable for giving to people as I know there would be many messages asking why it doesn't work.
I could make it robust but i think it would be less of a burden to me if anyone needed a conversion they could simply send me the XV patch file and I can run it though the program and send it back.

Hi Paolo
Like the Fantom the XV GM presets are not accessible, unless you have been able to do it.
If you have feel free to send then to me and I'll try to convert them.

My conversion program only goes from XV patch banks to FantomX/S patch banks
I only have a XV3080 (which I think is great, but the SRX cards are in the Fantom X).

Out of interest I have converted the XV factory User presets if you want to try them out.
They do sound different on the Fantom when auditioning them with the XV 3080 side by side.
I don't mind the difference and you can get monster sounds playing the two at the same time.

I would love to hear opinions from those that have access to both XV and Fantom synths.

I know what you mean.
Perhaps you can help with convertig the missing country patches?
I am trying to get hold of the original patches of this card. They were posted here half year ago, but the files arent downloadable anymore because of changing the board-system.
The user "bluesplayer" made them available, but i havnt been able to contact him here over the board so far.

I looked for the waveforms of the srjv-board country, they are almost all in the srx-09. Only the drum-waves were cut.
So it must be possible with your help (if bluesplayer or every other helper sends those patches) to convert this for fantom x with srx-9. Perhaps some waves have to be remapped, but i think it would be another great addition.

here are the presets, organized by card, in all 3 flavors including MIDI version and .SVD versions. this way you just slap the SVD on a compact flash card, and load that up into your Fantom at will. As I'm using the Ultimate Keys, Platinum Trax, and World Collection, this has been a Godsend. Many many thanks to your long hours of labour.

Thank you! I forgot you can't edit GMs on the XVs also, anyway you can import JV/XP patches; see:
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov03/articles/xvjvmasterclass.htm

Maybe I can send you JV 1080 GM patches in SysEx (raw SysEx or MIDI file) format , then you can send them to your XV 3080 and then convert them to Fantom?

Many many thanks here you are the JV 1080 GM patches in Midi file format (you should set on your XV 3080 the same device ID that I have on my JV 1080: device ID 17)

Sorry Paolo the file won't load into the XV Librarian and I tried to load it with a sequencer into my XV3080, but no luck.

Looking at the Midi file, the sysex header uses ox6A as the model id. The XV series uses 0x42 so it will never load as it is.
I did change some of the Model bytes to XV but still no luck.
I downloaded the JV1080 manual and although the general 4 tone architecture is the same as the XV there is so much more in the XV sysex.
I would take an enormous amount of work to convert from JV1080 to XV

Sorry

Please see page 132 of the XV 3080 user manual: Device ID Number setting; you should temporarily set the Device ID to 17 (and you should set "Rx SysExcl." to ON).
Also: did you read the link I gave you above (the Sound on Sound article, the relevant part is at the end of the article: "Backward compatibility")?

I now got hold of the SR-JV Country Patches (Many Thanks to user "bluesplayer"). PLease can you send Them through your Software?
I think the specific SRX-Waves have to be done by hand, or is it better for you to have a conversion- excel sheet where the SRJV wave-number is compared with the wave on the SRX card?

And.....
I have the confirmation, that all the other missing srjv midi files were made the next days....

if this will be possible work, the board members power is a great thing...
