MC-909 to Turntables sync

MC-909 to Turntables sync

21 Jan 2010, 12:06
Hello,

I'm trying to sync my Roland MC-909 to my turntables, but I'm having some problems doing so.
I've bought myself a Redsound Soundbite Micro which I can put an audio signal in and this will convert it to a MIDI clock signal.
I keep getting the message "MIDI Offline!" on my Roland MC-909. I've no clue what I'm doing wrong.
Does anyone have experience with this?

Cheers!

Toggling Push / Hold ` buttons under emulator, can keep the music in sync with your turn-tables.

But shouldn't the MC-909 receive the BPM though? The BPM isn't changng under the turntable emulation. Soon as I press play the music stops and I get the message "MIDI Offline!" ...

I have my settings as followed:
Sync Mode: Remote
Sync Output: ON
Arpeggio SyncMode: Off
RPS trigger quantize: REAL
BPM Lock: OFF

I have checked the manual and as far as I can tell these are the settings I should have to do this, but I am far from an expert at this.

I've tried that, but if I do that I won't be able to press play on the MC-909, then it needs to be controled from an external MIDI controler. It's been driving me nuts!

Write out exactly what electronic Dj gear you are using, with the turntables ` and then I will be able to help further ! ;)

I've got:
2 x Technics SL-1200MK2
Rane Empath DJ Mixer

Yup, these are my baby's !

Redsound Sounbite Micro, to convert the audio signal to a MIDI clock signal.

Any and all help is very much appreciated, cheers!

Ok, i just found out that midi offline is a fault with the midi connection or perhaps the cable is damaged. Also, check to see if it's fitted properly. If you have a spare cable, swap and try. If you don't have, they're not that expensive to buy. It's always handy to have extra cables.

Cheers! I did try another cable like you said and still get the same message. The only conclusion I can make is that the MIDI out on the Soundbite Micro doesn't work properly.

Thanks for the help!

If you've got your gear all wired up with a software program ` Example (Ableton), use an interface instead and then re-configure the ins and outs.
It might work.

Good luck with it, anyway. I'm sure you"ll get it working soon. ;]

Have you got it working yet, Bud !

If that is an Ableton product, have you rang to find out if faults like that can occur with the RSM ? Because if not, it's time to move to the next step of diagnosing. I'm interested to know where the fault is, in your set up.

Nope, not yet, i'm gonna need to try something else that does the same trick, then I'll know more. I'm gonna see if I can get my hands on a Korg Kaoss Pad for a day or two
