MC-909 -_-_-_-Sampling sync problem-_-_-_-

29 Apr 2008, 22:09
Hi All,

In the sampling sector of the MC-909, I have a sample with its original bpm set to 138.0. When I have edited and cleaned up the sample, I go into Timestretch mode and execute Timestretch, with its original bpm setting. After all this, I save the sample into user and card memory, load the sample into RAM and within completion I assign it as a part, into the sequencer section, with the create patch function setting.

I have created and edited a song in the Pattern user location, this song I have set to 159.0 bpm. Anyway, the bottom line is that when I activate the SYNC button and record the sample right on the beat of the metronone, being quantized at the same time, on play back with the metronone on, my sample outruns the beat meter. I have also tried with SYNC button off. (Need Help)

Thank You extremely for the answer when given.
P.S. All the best.

Calculate and adjust the new original tempo parameter of the sample to reflect the timestretch operation.

Hi Vaal,

Do you mean calculate the bpm and the rate because I have swapped these figures around and still the sample outruns the tempo. Also just to let you know that I have the sequencer midi set to master for the synchro internal tempo clock. So thats all good. I have worked around it all and I just cannot seem to get the sync right.

Can you please specify a bit more detail so I can get it right.
Thanks...

The initial original tempo of the sample was 138.0bpm. When you timestretched it, the original tempo would be changed by the stretch operation. You have to recalculate the tempo and change the tempo 'sample parameter'. The pattern then must use that tempo unless you use 'bpm sync'.

Alternatively, use the original 138.0 sample without timestretching it and use 'bpm sync' to keep it in time.

(Obviously, as you know, the tempo calculation must be based on a perfect working loop).

Also how quickly is the sync drifting - over one bar or several? I would always use a note trigger per sample length for best accuracy.

Hope that helps.

Hi Vaal,

(Ans to your Quest)

It jumps out from the metronone after 1.2. The pattern sequence is 4 measures long.

Timing still out of tune by a fraction.

I want to get this sample perfected with the beat.
I'll just keep engineering around it's peripherals until it's right.

Just to add that it's quite interesting about how many different ways there are for Tempo alignment in the sampling engine.

You've been a real great help to me. I'll get back to you as soon as I find out where I am going wrong with the tuning.

Tempo Resolution

The only other thing I would mention is the bpm resolution. It really needs to be to two decimal places for best accuracy in my opinion.

.01 of a bpm will make a difference eventually.

(The MV has two decimal points of course).

With the MC, it's best to shave a few samples off the end of the loop until it calculates at exactly .00 or .10 or .20, etc. Only then will the auto sync be accurate.

Good luck.

Hi Vaal,

Very interesting theory about shaving the end off the sample. I have noticed a quick double beat occurrence, at the end of the fourth measure a few times, Anyway

Almost successfully got it !!!

I will get back to you as soon as I have accomplished the overall project > and the exact -
pinpoints of rectification = - _ - _ - _ - _ - , , . .

Thanks again for your Genuine Impact in Helping

P.S. Iv'e set Quantize to off as this is also muddling up the sample.

Hi Vaal,

Finally accomplished, Using decimal units, calculation and a added spice of fine tuning, this has perfected my arrangement. Using the overall methods of what has been presented, I don't think Auto Sync is neccessary from my understanding. This learning process that I have moved through, has taught me a more Technical advanced step towards creating extreme techno on a Hardware modeling synth. ( PRACTICALLY UP TO DATE / 85% - 95% - Synth Modeling - JUNO - G / MC - 909) - [ Theoretical Basic Synth Knowledge 55% -75% ]
Thank You.
