Thanks for the reply. The board somehow works fine, it's been in use now consistently ever since I posted this thread. How/why it can work perfectly without its capacitor is beyond me, but it does work, just fine.

Greetings Jim - thanks for the reply. I ended up fixing this problem. I found a spare slider pot board and installed it, and the problem went away. The problem was the volume slider. So all is well. thanks! Richard
