MC-808: Control with a guitar

8 Dec 2007, 10:06
Hi, I just really want to be able to start and stop songs with something remote and am starting to look at the Line6 POD X3 Live and the like.
Has anyone had any luck trying something like this with the 808?
We use it to mainly play back songs and jam along with.
Also:
Any Roland GK Users afoot that have connected their guitars to the 808?

Sorry if this is in the FAQ or somewhere else. I looked around and did not see anything.

Hi doombilly,

when you play with the girlbass unit :-) you are looking for something to connect to the mc-808 to start and stop a song or pattern?

Ciao, Dirk.
that is essentially it, doc.

BTW, GirlBassUnit and I have a show. Anyone in Charlotte NC USA. Stop by the SKNETCAFE www.sknetcafe.com tonight. :D

I was really thinking seriously about modifying my guitar set up with the X3Live Pedal board. But that is more un-Roland related. However, I have been curious of the potential with a Roland GK3 p/up and the 808. If any...

guitar and mc

I use an Axon ax100 and mc 808 ,
the axon is unreal and eats the roland synth for fuctions but not sounds.
The real clincher for me is that i can send any program message to the mc via where i pick on my guitar.
I can send filter sweeps by playing across the bridge to the kneck or even play different sounds with every string.

Its amazing to see the faders moving whilst im playing.

The only thing is i dont know what control message is start and stop or i would do that too.
I just putt blank bars at the end on my songs so they dont repeat
check out the axon I got mine on ebay and it tracks 99% perfect unlike rolands and I love roland stuff I had all of the synths gr1 gr33 gr20 so Im not talking from ignorance just experiance. hope this helps

hey thanks for the updates MRT.

I am wondering if for nothing other than recording I could use the gk3 to control the sounds on my 808? Or would I need a full guitar synth rig and then midi from it to the 808, which would seem kind of pointless...I guess... I dunno just for my guitar essential needs I might get an x3 live. I'm getting tired of lugging an 85 pound (37 kg) combo amp to just get mono blends of my parker nitefly.

know what you mean

you cant use gk without the synth box converter and thats as much as the gr20 with sounds
I get steareo with the gt8 and a pod xt running through the eefects chain on the gt8 straight into the p/a, unless you really want valve punch and dynamics pods or X3 in your case in the way to go, also i use a crate powerblock only £50 for a really light 200w head i mean light and small as my pod and has ballanced line out for P/a if i need to use a small cab to hear myself, and they are either a steareo from the back or just a amp through the front check them out.
I get saick of carring stuff around
