'zipper' noise on filter sweep

'zipper' noise on filter sweep

I'm using COSM1 to create a filter cutoff change as I press a key harder ( AT)

The source patch is 'Nah Lead"

When I press, I get a satisfactory opening up of the sound, but along with it comes quite a strong zipper noise.

Is this a 'feature'?

This is a unique property of the V-Synth's engine - first many people were wining at Roland but then loved it to death because it gave a certain interesting gritty charisma to the sound.

OK I can live with it, but I don't like the fact that I can't control it.

It's a great lead sound, though :-)

I still hate the fact that it does it.

There are other filter abnormalities as well. The worst would have to be if you have a sound that has a long release, then you do some rapid filter action, it sounds very strange - almost like voices cutting in and out. I have spoken to Roland Japan about this (plus the stepping) and they said "we are aware of the problems", so lets hope they fix it!

Yeah... it annoys me too. It isn't too bad if you move the filter knob slowly but it does step a lot when moved quickly. Same problem if you have it assigned to the D-beam and move your hand quickly. It's probably a hardware DSP limitation because there is so much going on inside..? I hope not.

I remember getting word back from Korg about their MS2000's messy arpeggiator timing when externally clocked. They said it was a hardware limitation and no amount of OS updates could fix it. :(

These things happen.
