How to create XR patch to compensate for oversensitive keybo

How to create XR patch to compensate for oversensitive keybo

I have a dual-keyboard MIDI organ connected to a Fantom XR. This organ has MIDI velocity. I don't like ithe keyboard touch - even if I barely touch the keys, by accident, it sounds.

I would like it to be less sensitive and require a harder pressure before sounding at all. I believe this should be possible if the XR could be programmed not to sound unless the volume in the note-on messages was at least a certain threshold.

I have a requirement that my sounds all play at the same level, as a traditional organ would, or a harpsichord. Right now, I have accomplished that by turning off velocity sensing on the keyboard itself. But when I do that, even the slightest touch of the keys produces the maximum volume in the Fantom patch.

What I'm looking to do is keep the velocity sensing enabled on the keyboard, and create a Fantom XR patch that would not sound unless the note-on volume was a certain threshold, or sound at full volume above that threshold. Is it possible to do that ?
So far, from what I have read of the manual, it wouldn't appear to be possible. Can anyone confirm ?

Velocity sensitivity can be adjusted(1) in performance mode, (2)in patch mode, and (3) for individual tone of a patch.
Just pick the mode you want and do editing.. If you are not into editing and saving patches, performance mode is the easiest. Hit enter in performance mode twice..scroll to all the way to the right till you can not go further.. adjust value.. default is zero meaning no velocity sensitivity offset.
Same thing exist for patch mode too. You need to save your edited performance mode or a patch.
For individual tone, you can not only adjust velocity sensitivity but also can adjust velocity sensitivity curve.. so it is more flexible. You may want to use FX editor program for that. You can do it on FXR but it is tedious at this point.

I want to do this on the XR

dkpcola,

Thanks for your response.
I was aware of the velocity sensitivity offset, but I believe it doesn't do what I want. It is just a relative number to be added or subtracted from the value coming from the keyboard. That doesn't help.
I need something where the velocity is 0 when the keyboard sends a note-on with value 1 through x, and the 127 when it is x through 127.
I believe that means I need to modify the velocity curve - it would actually a broken curve, two lines in my case.
I am fine with doing this in performance mode.

However, I can't use the FX editor. I use Solaris and OS/2, and there is no FX editor for them. I bought the XR because it was a standalone box and didn't require software. Can you tell me how to do this on the XR, or point me to the right section of the manual to modify the curve ?

Thanks.

I haven't really been through the manual properly and I don't know if you could do this via the front panel but maybe you could set up a velocity switch and have the sound you want only come in over a certain velocity and with no dynamic range.

Might be annoying if you have to edit all your patches this way though.

It is easy.. but you need to edit each patch and save those patches to user or card area. You need to edit individual tone of the patch.
Just adjust velocity range of individual tone so minimum point is the velocity you want the sound to start(e.g.85). Adjust individual tone TVA so velocity sensitivity is zero. Each tone will sound max.
You can do this on the display of FXR.
If I were you , I may look into having controller doing this velocity things instead. Search the web or other forums for little midi box the can manipulate transmitted velocity. I forget the name right now.
Why do you want this weired velocity trigger?
