Korg Triton Sound Editor: problems

Korg Triton Sound Editor: problems

23 Jun 2006, 09:10
I just picked up a Triton rack and installed the Triton Sound Editor by Peter Voise, so I won't have to edit patches from the Triton's screen.

When starting the program, I am however met by an error message, and the program won't start.
The error reads:
Exception EReadError in module TSE.exe at 00012AB1.
etc.

What can I do about this? Also, are there any alternative free editors?
I am running Windows XP.

Thanks!

Hi SaltyDawg,
I picked myself up a copy of MidiQuest. It's an editor for a zillion different synths, including Korg Triton.
Although I didn't find it to be the best editor I've used, it's still great. Plus you also get to edit all your other synths, so it's a pretty good deal.

Do you have a rack? If so, I'd suggest you try to install it so that it's in the same height as your face. If this is an option, you can actually program the patches on the Triton's screen, it really is that easy and intuitive.

How do you like it so far? Personally I think it's awesome :D

Yeah, my Triton is a Rack.

I love it. My beef with it though is that you have to reserve the voices for the MOSS board. For example, when I turn my Triton Rack on, by default, it's set to have all 6 MOSS voices reserved for track 1. I then change it and spread those MOSS voices out over several tracks. But when I turn it off and back on again, all 6 voices are on track 1 again.

I think they should have made it so that it either saved the settings so you didn't have to change it every time you turn it on, or, ideally, made it so you didn't even have to reserve any MOSS voices. I mean, I can understand the MOSS board only being able to do a max of 6 voices, but it shouldn't matter which tracks those 6 voices are on. I should be able to just call up a MOSS patch in Cubase without changing any settings on the Triton Rack- no matter which track I'm working with. The same way it is for all the other banks and expansion boards.

Other than that though, the Triton Rack is great.

So, this MidiQuest, does it work with a Fantom XR and a Motif Rack ES too? And can you use it in Cubase?

I've never really been one to tweak sounds too much. Mostly just use the4 presets and change them a little here and there. But I'm starting to get more into it so I need a good editer. I think I'm going to buy an analog synth too. I already have a Novation X-Station, but I was thinking about getting a Oberheim Matrix 1000. So I'll need something to edit all those patches...

Hmm, it doesn't seem that it supports neither the Fantom Xr, nor Yamaha Motif ES rack. Well, I found the included editor for the ES to be pretty top notch, so I'd suggest you try that one out.
It would, however, be strange if they don't release updates including these synths. Regarding the Oberheim, it does support it, but I couldn't find the Novation on the list.

The MOSS thing sounds a bit awkward indeed. Maybe there's a setting under 'Global' that can sort this problem?
