Juno Alpha 1 Hoover - on v-synth?

Juno Alpha 1 Hoover - on v-synth?

I know there is a hoover preset in the v-synth that is the reese which is two osc slightly detuned... WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT THAT

me and a buddy were talking about that "what the" preset on the juno alpha 1, it was used in Joey Beltrams 'Mentasm' track

from my understanding its basicaly two square waves pulse width modulated, i do not know how to make this with the v-synth. I heard the reason why the alpha could do it so well was it had a very fast lfo and a very wide pulse width.

CAN SOMONE PLEASE HELP ME create this sound on the v-synth? here is a sample:

Oh, yeah, I love this sound. It has been used on so many breakbeat and hardcore tracks in the 1990s.

As about how it was done, I don't know, I didn't investigate. But in general, on the V-Synth hoover sounds are made with the Super Saw. You can route it to Comb Filter and then tweak the Tone parameter to morph between even/odd harmonics, you will hear a similar sound.

It was interesting for me to check out what two detuned PWM squares will give on the V-Synth. They result in quite a fat sound which really reminds the Alpha Juno's hoover. But still I needed to use the Comb Filter to shift it more to a saw wave and also use sub OSC to beef it up.

I am attaching the patch which I created. It has a falling pitch envelope, and if you switch on COSM2 you will have a swept LPF too.

great attempt Artemio, thanks for the investigation

I learnt that what really makes this sound is lots of chorus, your method helped a lot.

I ended up making 3 versions of it heh

Hi guys,
the real trick to the original hoover sound lies in the way the pitch is modulated by an envelope.
Pitch falls by a certain amount during the release phase.
Kinda like the synth equivalent of a brass fall sample, where the falling part starts whenever you lift the fingers of the keyboard.

Of course starting with a heavy detuned supersaw doesnt hurt........

the difference between theory and practise is that in theory there is no difference

Well.... after trying hoovers for a while and not having any luck with getting them to sound right I searched and found this gem of a thread... I used every thing talked about in here and am now a master at the hoover with my V. The tip with the sub osc saw in conjunction with the super saw from artemio and the tip mr.x gave to about the pitch being modulated with the envelope are what made it gold... it just took a while to get the tuning right. I was hopeless with the whoovers until I found this... and it sounds nasty with the pitch evelope taken off and bringing the keys down a few octaves... really nice reeses for resampling and mutilating. I also found that giving the patch a boost in the low end helped it sound much fuller and thick as well. It's stupid, but I'm totaly psyched now!!! "search" is a beautiful thing.
