A Question about the XT

A Question about the XT

20 Jul 2005, 07:04
Is it possible to get the version 1 soundset on my machine without updating the .rom file? What I mean is that if I wanted to replace the version 2.0 soundset with the version 1.0 soundset, can I follow the update procedure and replace everything but the .rom file (or if I needed to, just use the version 2.0 rom again even though it is already there)

Or, Is roland planning on ever releasing these original soundbanks as a download for version 2.0 xt owners? I am not so into the dance music and it seems this is the general direction of the 2.0 soundset and it seems to me that I would be more interested in the original one.

Thanks

1. Download the version 2.01 update for XT: http://v-tribe.info/gear/v-synth-xt/update/

2. Download the version 1.51 update for V-Synth: http://v-tribe.info/gear/v-synth/update/

3. When performing the update according to the instructions (http://v-tribe.info/documents/V-Synth-FAQ.html#entry2.3), use the .rom file from OS 2.01 and disk image .bin file from OS 1.5.1

Thanks for the reply,

Also in the 2.0.1 folder there is a file titled MI004.BIN. What is this file? Is it necessary if I want to use the 1.51 soundbank? The 1.51 folder only has one .bin file and not two so it is a bit confusing. Thanks.

I have no idea about what this file this, but I'd suggest you to copy it to the XT along with .rom and .bin files too. And please take my WARNING - I haven't ever heard of anyone doing what you are going to do. Theoretically it's absolutely OK, but who knows.

Thanks, I may or may not do it. My XT ships out today. And though I will be using mostly my own waves eventually. I like to wrap my head around a factory soundset first and see what makes the patches tick before I set out on my own banks. I may like the new soundbank for that purpose and keep it but what I have always loved about the Vsynth is it's weird factor, I have other synths for their playability. Once again thanks for this wonderful resource. I may have a question or two more once I get the v synth and start to come to terms with it.

Well, I find the OS 2.0 wave set much more useful than 1.x set, it is more distinct-sounding. Good luck with your XT!

EJ:

The preset waves are in ROM and there is no way to extract these from there unless you re-sample/edit/re-encode them. So you can't combine 1.5x and 2.0x preset sample sets.

That's what I thought. I'm still reorienting my thinking from Korg Karma data transfers.

I'm having trouble understanding saving projects especially to compact flash I just installed. There's no routine specified for the D50 data in the VC-1 manual. As for the saving the entire XT to project on my CF, when I get to "OK" after I have selected and named the "New Project", I get a warning that tells me the Internal Memory will be replaced. So, I cancel and exit the routine. Why does this happen? Do, I have to save the Internal Project first, then save to CF "disk"?
Thanks,
Eric
