vsynth xt usb audio

Does anyone know if the usb passes the audio as analog or digital?
I will start to track the xt (in logic) and at first it's fine but then I get all kinds of noise and artifacts. (Almost like its a digital sync problem).
Trying to track the the vc2 is worse.
I probably have a setting incorrect somewhere but have tried everything I can think of.

I'm sorry, but this is a really funny question... USB is a digital interface, isn't it? And after all where did you read that analogue applies more artifacts to the sound than digital? ;-)

As about your problem, maybe you need to describe it more, what kind of noise you get, when there is some sound played or constantly, how does the sound change.

When I am tracking the sound, it will at first be ok - good clean sound and volume.
Then it will become distorted, has low volume and it has pops and clicks. (That's why I thought it might be a digital clock syncing problem.)
It seems that when I do "take 1" everything is fine.
But when I do subsequent recordings (same patch just a different region) I get all the distortion etc.
I should also note that if I listen through headphones plugged into the xt the sound is fine. Its what is going from the usb into the pc that is the problem.

I am streaming the audio from the xt usb directly into the pc (imac g5 running Tiger). I am also using the imac's audio out. (I also have a pro-tools Mbox but it isn't Tiger compatible yet.)

I am using Logic Pro 7. Why I think it has to be some kind of sync problem is that it doesn't happen the first time I record. Only on subsequent recordings. So it appears that it might be in sync and then when I stop and go back into record it has lost sync.

I've tried changing settings (including buffers) within both Logic and the xt, but since there are so many potential combinations, that I have not got the right ones down. (And it may not be a syncing problem at all.)

I might just have to wait until I have the updated drivers for protools and track into that using the s/pdif out of the xt. I did download the Tiger drivers for the xt from Roland.

I have found that the V-synth works over usb but you have to have the XT as the saoundcard, You have the V-synth as the Saoundcard in the Audio Driver in Logic Pro.

You get all the plugins playing back and the XT controls the volume yet my monitirs are still plugged into my FW SOundcard?

Its all very confusing

Question for all of you:

Can any of you get USB MIDI to work? I'm not having any problems with USB audio, but I can'y get my system to recognise the XT as a MIDI device to save my life! I have other USB devices hooked up to my system, and there are no issues. But the XT is giving me fits. Roland support hasn't gotten back to me, but I wanted to see if I'm the only one with this problem, or if others are experiencing the same thing. Thanks in advance.

Peace.

How crazy is that ! , no Ive had the opposite .. Idid find a new USB driver of Rolands Website 1.1.1 for Tiger. Dunno if that helps, Im stil waiting for Roland UK to get back to me in 2 days apparently they havent been trained up on the XT yet

Great :(

I recently bought a Mac mini Intel (OSX 10.4.5) and the v-synth soundcard is not detected by OSX with the last USB driver (1.1.0). I do not find the 1.1.1 version of the driver.

The "System preferences" window shows a "roland v-synth xt" icon but I get an error message when I click on it.

Has anybody solved this driver installation ?

Thanks,
Jeff

As I can suggest, you should try the generic USB MIDI/audio drivers on OS X.

Where can i find it ? How do you configure this generic usb midi/audio ?

Thanks in advance,

Just uninstall the shipped V-Synth driver and reboot the system. Then plug your XT via USB and see what happens. If OS X is smart enough (*), it will be able to work with it via USB MIDI and USB audio with it's standard drivers.

* Roland makes all it's devices complying to USB standard specification. On my Linux box, all Roland devices work out of the box with no extra drivers needed, since Linux at it's side has standard-compliant drivers too. OS X is based on open source technologies too and it should work this way as well.

I sent an email to the french Roland Support. All the things I tried do not work. OSX does not find the vsynth midi/audio interface in the "System preferences>Sound".
