Saving an internal patch directly to PC Card storage...

27 Jun 2005, 08:17
Hi again,

I bought a PC Card adaptor and a 512MB Compact Flash card yesterday, and I have a question. I formatted the card, and saved the factory project to it, so I have all the patches, waveforms, etc out of the box saved onto the card (and I have a HUGE amount of space left over--woo hoo!!). Anyway, I know I can overwrite those patches all day long and not touch the factory presets that are internal to the machine, but is there any way of editing an internal patch and saving it directly to the PC Card? When I go into the menu and pick "write patch" it only pulls up the 512 internal patches. I don't see a function where I can save it to the card (unless I'm working with the card patches at the start). I'm sure I'm missing something, and the manual isn't at all helpful on this. Please enlighten me. Thanks!

patches are saved in projects
if you want to save a patch to a project on your card you must be working on a project from the card or save the entire project you are working on into the card

when you reach the save menu
you will notice on the left of the screen two buttons where you can select INTernal or CARD (if you have one)
on the top left there is also another button "New Project" in case you want to save an old project with a new name.

Attention: even if you saved the Internal Preset Project to your card, the preset waves are not saved with it; all preset waves are non editable and stay resident in V-Synth's memory, all that is saved with the project is a link to these waves

all the best

Thanks for the info. So, I guess my first assumption was correct--if you want to save an edited patch, and you don't want to change the factory presets, start with the patches in the CF card to begin with, and save from there. Since I plan on doing that, can I go into the system settings and tell the V-Synth to load up the project from the CF card on startup? I would guess you can do this, but (again) I'll have to check on it when I get home.

you can load from the card on startup
anyway I wouldn't bother very much in altering any preset patches
whenever you need any of them you just have to import it from the preset memory; it will assume the next vacant slot and it will sound exactly as it was

On startup, the V-Synth will always load the project you left loaded when shutting down.

If you want to work under your own project, simply delete all files under the "Patch" directory of the card project, then you will have all factory waves in this project but all 512 patches free.

Also, remember that if you go to MODE -> DISK -> Import files, you will see the preset project which you can import waves and patches from. This means that even if you remove the internal project from the internal flash memory, you will still be able to call up any preset by importing it from ROM.

hey don

roughly how many full sized (512 patch) projects can your card hold?

acid1: each patch eats up about 5.5 KB. So a 512 patch project will take about 2.8 MB. This means a 32 MB card will hold about 10 such projects (i.e. ~5100 patches).
