Condenser Microphone to Input

Condenser Microphone to Input

10 Jan 2006, 16:54
I would like to use my Rode Condensing Microphone(XLR) instead of my Philips $10.00 Mic From Walmart. (lol)

I have seen an XLR Cable to a 1/4", which is what i would need, (right?) but do I need another type of adapter to plug a condensor Mic directly into Fantom X8? (I think i've seen it only accepts dynamic mics?)

Thanks for any help. Funny thing is the Philips doesn't sound all that bad.

You need something that will supply Phantom power to your condensor mike. Unfortunately, the Fantom does not do this. If you have a small mixer, they usually supply phantom power. If not, I suggest getting a small pre-amp for 50-100 bucks. I use a sure bata 57 mike and it sounds pretty damn good. In the future I plan to get a decent condensor mike, probably the Rode nt1-a. When I do I plan to get a Samson C-valve pre-amp for about a hundred bucks even. Don't be discouraged though, this is really about the only thing that the Fantom doesn't provide in my opinion.

I recommend this mixer as it will give you phantom power plus you can have digital effects while you record your vocals. Pretty neat and small.

you could try something like this. I'm currently considering it.
