Effects while recording audio track

Effects while recording audio track

23 Sep 2005, 17:49
I am not in front of my FX7 right now, but I'll try.
I am trying to hear the effects on my mic as I am recording. In the audio track screen, I plug my mic in the mic in, hit shift+mix in, change the Mix in output asgn from dry to MFX 1, set MFX 1 to long delay. Now when I talk into the mic I hear the delay. But while I am recording I can't here it and it does not record it. Any input would be helpful.

I've found this too. Audio tracks can be assigned any MFX in the Audio Track mixer, however they are recorded with only the input effect (compression for example). I guess the idea is that you can revert to the original uneffected sample at any time. This also applies to samples i believe. The key phrase here is - output assign, the effects unit is processing the output, but the sample is taken (and monitored while recording) pre output effects.

It seems that which ever way we try we will always be limited to 3 MFX, unless we resample again and again and make no mistakes.

thats one thing I am hoping for in a update, the ability to use more then three mfxs, without resampling... save a bunch of time.. it would be cool if each channel had there own mfxs and reverbs and delays...

" it would be cool if each channel had there own mfxs and reverbs and delays..."

wow, that would mean to have 16MFX, 16 Reverbs and 16 Delays engines.
I better go and buy an Oasys ;-)

hear what I've done with the 7

This must be possible

I guess the main question is can I record an audio track from an external source with MFX on it? For example: When I sing into the mic with some MFX reverb, I want it to record me with the reverb. This seems like it sould be very simple. Please help me!!!

You can do it if you use sampling. Im not in front of my FX but I,ll try.

Go to sampling and use the option where you only record the external source. Remember to assign youre MFX to the effect your want then press play to youre squence and start singing. It will only record what come in to the mic includint the MFX. Now you just have to save the sample and insert it in the proper place in an audio track.

Have fun and reply if you are succesfull.

First of all thanks for the responce. So it looks like this can not be done in the audio track while recoreding. Yes/ No anyone? If that is the case, I still love my FX but am very disappointed.

Sorry, I made a mistake on that first post. It does not record the delay. I made the changes to fix the posting

I don't yet have the expansion but it seems a bit strange that it can't be done.

Someone? Maybe there is a new configuration in "system" that you can enable in order to record the MFX as well?

Hey energizer1389, I tried what you said and that method does not record with the MFX either. This really sucks. Has anyone found away around this or am I asking for to much out if the FX . You would think that this would not even be a problem.

I think its better to not record with effects, because once its printed on the track there is nothing you can ever do to fix it out of the track. But for sure one does want to listen to the vocals with reverb at least while one records. That is simply a must. HOw can you get into the music if its dry and with no ambience. So I figured the best thing to do would be to get a mixer with built in effects like this one:

http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemID=32531&TempID=1&departmentid=6

If you can get a PRE amp that has digital outs and analog out, that would work big time I think. Where you can have say the digi out of the PRE go into the digi in of the FX. But the analog out of the PRE go to the external mixer so that you can have two feeds of your vocal. One that is going to be recorded into the FX, and one that its going to be used only for the sole purpose of monitoring with effects.

So the signal of your vocal going into the mixer say channel one, can have reverb applied to it, while the signal coming from the FX into this same mixer say, on channel 2&3 dont apply any reverb. So now, you can monitor the entire mix with one channel having reverb and the other two without reverb since you are already applying that inside the FX to the other tracks. I hope this makes sense, but its the only way I think that this can work.
