Project 50 Song limit on Fantom G

Project 50 Song limit on Fantom G

Quick question to any Fantom G users playing their own sequenced songs live on stage.

I have found that the 50 songs per project is not enough for all the sequenced songs I have in total. So I have had to create mutiple projects on my Fantom G7, project 1, project 2, project 3, etc.... copy my multisamples as required from the first project SND bank into other project SND banks so that my songs load the sounds correctly.

Problem is when playing Live I may need to load Song 32 of project 1 and then the next being say Song 12 on Project 3 and so forth.
This means having to load the individual projects everytime before I can select the song I need. People waiting, embarrasing when you have to wait for the complete project to load first to search your song required for playback and only to have to do it all again for the next song when the listed 50 songs on the current project is not what you need.
If I never played more than 50 songs a night then no problem, just put this into one Project called LIVE and we are good to go.

Asked Roland support and they need to check and find a quicker solution. I am running the later version OS.

The whole reason I upgraded my Roland XP80 and Fantom XR to a G7 was to elimate song and sample loading time on stage for all my Samples and Midi sequencers and remove the need to run a Laptop with Cakewalk running as my stage sequencer. Laptops fail, Keyboards such as the Fantom G7 should be the best replacement is what I bought it for.

I am wondering if anyone else found any quicker project load times for live stage work that they can recommend while Roland techs come back with an answer.
Otherwise I love th G for Studio work and just as my main keyboard on stage less the sequencer.

Thanks.

something different but similar is a project limit as well

once i got to project 33 or 34 they started deleting my old projects and over writing them with blanks. i lost a lot of stuff.

Hey Phil!

Why so many projects? If each project can store 50 songs and 2000 samples, that's alot of stuff! ;-)

I'm not sure about this, but . . . I might suggest that when saving a project on a thumb' drive, that a certain amount of memory is allocated to that specific project, regardless of the number of songs or samples stored. I would think that storing 1 or 2 songs would not be a very efficient use of space.

Im just guessing here, but maby if you make one studioset with a standard setup that will work for several songs you can maby have some songs as standard midifile and play with that studioset even if it contains samples. it should not have to be like that, i think they should make an upgrade to allow more songs.

Now i wonder if you can help me?
Im playing in diffrent band and always made one project a band. Now i need to combine songs from all bands (projects) into one. I also use alot of diffrent samples to all songs. Is there an easy way to import songs with all samples to a diffrent project?

I found that with one studioset playing back smf data loses all the preferred effects I would rather use.

In answer to merging songs between projects, I think the only option is to have the songs numbered say project 1 has song 1-25 and the second project has 26-50.

Then by copying the song files from the first project SNG folder into the second these will not overwrite the existing songs on the second project.

The manual states that songs be saved as SMF files and then copy to SNG SMF folder is the correct method.

Hopefully Roland's next OS fixes these quirks and limitations.

As it is possible to import/export Patches/Studiosets/Livesets/multisamples etc, there is no way to copy entire songs from project to project. And I means full-blown songs, with multiple MIDI and Audio tracks. For instance, I can't compile a project with songs I want to play live. To copy song 1 from project A, song 23 from project C, and songs 12+15 from project B, and put them in a new project.
This is a serious limitation, and it happens because there is not a decent file management system on the Fantom-G.

And yes, this is not a bug. I can't really understand the irony about "Like some of our clan friends would say". I really don't care what is a bug and what it isn't. I care to be able to work with a complete workstation, not an unfinished product.
And currently the Fantom-G is the Edward Scissorhands of workstations. I hope Fantom-G's maker isn't dead too though. ;-)

Totally agree

Than i never would have done diffrent band in diffrent projects, only save in favorite mode and make each project as full as possible.

So much for the G being marketed as a true workstation and PC/DAW studio replacement.

Looks like I I have to go back to the laptop midi'd to my trusty Fantom XR for my samples and song playback live.

I do have Roland looking into this and will see if they can come up with a work around and keep you posted.

Does anyone know if the Fantom X6,7,8 have the same limitations in song limits as well? I only own the XR and not sure if the X workstation keyboards can load more songs per project or not.

The good thing about the Fantom X is the fact that they don't use "projects" like the Fantom G, You can storage hundreds of songs (as many they fit in the Memory) and you just "play" them with a simple "click"
There's no way to play a song on the Fantom G out of the "Project" so if Roland doesn't upgrade the G's operation system, the keyboard might be considered as obsolete or use only in studios, not for live presentations. I can't understand why Roland replaces a new design skipping good features, it's really a shame.
