Crackling or like vinyl record with dust.

So, for the first time, I decided to use the S/PDIF and while playing or recording, I get every 5-6 seconds a crackling sound, just like the old vinyl records when the needled would go over some dust...I wonder if anyone else had the same problem. The cable is high quality gold plated. I am going from the Integra-7 to the Focusrite 18i16 and both are connected to the PC with a USB cable.

Sounds like there's a sync problem mate.

To use S/PDIF you need to set one device as the "master" and the other as the "slave".

This will ensure that the "clocking" is in-sync. IOW, both devices are generating individual samples at the same time and you should then be able to send the audio in either direction without clicks / pops.

Thanks mate...you were absolutely right. I was focused on the 18i16 and DAW when I totally ignored the Integra-7 Clock. Everything is rolling great. I don't know if you have more knowledge about the Integra but I will ask anyway.
Can I use all 8 physical channels as mono and the S/PDIF at the same time making that a total of 16 Physical Channels connected to my 18i16 so that they would show up as 16 audio channels? I don't want to invest in 8 Mogami cables unless this works as I use the Integra for Recordings through my DAW only.

Good stuff; glad to be of service mate.

As for the output-channel thing:

I can only speak for the analogue outs. In this case, you can have 8 mono channels or 4 stereo ones and everything in-between.

Sorry mate; it's all I have.

Thanks for that! I will try the outputs from the S/PDIF and post back here if I manage to have all 16 channels separately in the DAW.

No worries Theo.

Bear in mind that S/PDIF is stereo-only.

Yeah S/PDIF has a cleaner and lower signal than the analog or even USB through the DAW. Sad that the S/PDIF only works through Channel A output. The S/PDIF or Optical on this Device would have be wonderful going through an AUDIO Interface and then through the DAW. I have also noted that no update on the Integra 7 editor and USB driver has been done for so many years. I still have problems using it through my DAW. The editor gets the error connection constantly and works only if I uninstall DAW and reinstall with Integra 7 editor from scratch. Once I select my audio interface and then return back to the editor, it doesn't work.

I'd recommend grabbing one of the free 3rd-party editors then Theo.
