DAW Control in macOS 13 Ventura with M1/M2 Mac
20 Nov 2022, 21:51TL;DR:
DAW Control not working with you M1 or M2 Mac? -> Open using Rosetta.
Thought I'd post this to help others since it took me a good 2+ hours to fix this problem.
I have a M1 Mac, with what's referred to as "Apple silicon". And I love it; who doesn't like silent computing...
After a few weeks without connecting my Fantom to Logic Pro, I couldn't comprehend why DAW CTRL would work with MainStage but not Logic. Although I seem to remember everything used to work fine with the previous version of macOS, I had since upgraded Logic, MainStage and macOS to the latest versions without thinking about the impact on my setup. At the time of writing, these versions are Logic Pro 10.7.5. and macOS Ventura 13.0.1.
Decided to re-install by carefully following this documentation: FANTOM 6, FANTOM 7, FANTOM 8: DAW Control with Logic and Mainstage.
Re-installed and restarted a few times but DAW Control would simply not connect to Logic...
Turns out the the Logic plug-in from Roland seems to only get picked up when running Logic using Rosetta 2 (Intel mode), instead of universal/native Apple mode.
Make sure Rosetta 2 has been installed. More here: If you need to install Rosetta on your Mac.
I had a weird error message so I forced a re-install of Rosetta 2 with this command line:
Once you run Logic Pro, assuming you have DAW CTRL enabled on the keyboard, the screen should start displaying the controls during the launch (even before a project is opened). Also you should finally see the Fantom appear in Control Surface Setup, which is only accessible with "Enable Complete Features" turned on in Settings, Advanced.
Hope this helps.
I look forward to running Logic in Universal/native Apple mode once Roland have updated their plug-in and driver...
