Control any MC 707 param via MIDI?

Control any MC 707 param via MIDI?

Hi :-)

I haven't understood the reference manual of the MC 707. It feels like "set up your favorite CC" and less like "control anything via MIDI".

Can you control all MC 707 parameters via MIDI without the user interface? Are there some system exclusive messages to either change the CC destinations, or to set any parameter no matter what the CC control matrix currently is?

No is the short answer. Firmware update will likely add control via sysex ... but not all controls .. ( ie even via sysex on roland fa you cant press”enter” and other functions but u can change everything about the sounds.)

At the moment the mc-707 wont even send filter and cutoff cc ( but it does receive them).

It does technically receive filter and cutoff cc’s, as well as pitch-bend and mod-wheel, but...the sequencer will not record any of these cc’s from an external keyboard or controller. Unless of course I’m missing something...and I’ve tried everything I can think of to make it work.

Also, it would be great if you could play an external synth from directly from the keyboard on the 707. It does play the external synth AFTER you’ve sequenced it with the internal sounds...but, as of right now, the keyboard and knobs don’t transmit any data. Hopefully this can be fixed/changed in a firmware update. As it currently stands, the midi implementation seems a little “unfinished”.

Have you trued record using “motion record” but sending it external ccs?

Oh gee i never thought it wouldnt do that! Lol that is wierd .. they can def update it to let that happen .. theres no “local” on or of yet. So id say fairly likely it will support what u want soon.

Hi, do you know if this has been solved? I can´t find a solution, is incredible when you see that can´t record in the MC sequencer the mod wheel data of the external controller conected to make more flexible melodies...

My b for bringing back an old thread, but one of the updates made it so you can map the fx, mod and and filter knobs in the kit assign controls, and I'm pretty sure that if you set the track channels so they correspond with your other device, then you can record their motions by doing a quick press on the "motion rec" button or holding it down while making adjustments. And also, you can turn the motions off and on or make adjustments by pushing shift+sequenc_note, then hitting left arrow until you are on the page where you can see where the changes are at in the sequencer while making changes with the c knobs

I tried pretty much all CC options from my jupiter-xm, but had very limited success. Also most of them, seemed not to work with a slider/knob, but only with the button. They would go on/off, or for example: pan would go center, left right.
Tempo clock works fine though, but I feel it's very limited. Would have preferred to control the synth settings like cutoff, resonance with the actual knobs I have on my Jupiter-xm.

I was curious about this so I went poking when I got myself a 707 just a couple of days ago.

It seems that yes, the MC-707 does receive and accept system exclusive messages, but it's really picky about what it sends back and so far I haven't gotten a proper response from it. But something like an intelligent random patch generator/editor should be very much doable, even though you can't get the data from the machine reflected on the client end.

Technical stuff for all the fluffy nerds out there:

MC-707 Model ID is C0
00 00 00 C0h

Example command, activate Track 1, Clip 1:
F0 41 11 00 00 00 C0 12 10 00 08 0D 00 5B F7

Activate Track 1, Clip 2:
F0 41 11 00 00 00 C0 12 10 00 08 0D 01 5A F7

08 in this command is the track number, setting it to 09, 0A, 0B etc will change the target, but you need to recalculate the checksum.

I'm currently trying to gather more data on how to poke the synth engine inside the clip and the other settings as well, but without documentation it's a bit of a hit and miss. :D

But yea, in short: Yes, you can control any parameter on the MC-707 via MIDI.

That's cool man! Please keep.us I formed ! I can't help thinking the mc 707 was rushed and not entirely finished also lacking documentation to go along with it ...

regarding the possibility that MC707 allows the upload and editing of ZenCore sounds, it is necessary to try to see if it responds to any of these messages.
F0 41 10 00 00 00 C0 11 01 01 00 00 00 00 20 7F 00 F7
F0 41 10 00 00 00 C0 11 02 00 00 00 00 00 20 7F 00 F7
F0 41 10 00 00 00 C0 11 02 10 00 00 00 00 20 7F 00 F7

F0 41 10 00 00 00 C0 11 01 00 00 00 00 00 20 7F 00 F7
F0 41 10 00 00 00 C0 11 01 10 00 00 00 00 20 7F 00 F7
F0 41 10 00 00 00 C0 11 02 01 00 00 00 00 20 7F 00 F7
The response should be a set of 33 midi messages with a total size of 2582 bytes
You can test in windows with MIDI-OX

To the lone visitor in the future that finds this discussion via Google etc., C0 was a control command and was not the ID for MC-707. Further testing showed that the 707 does not respond to any SysEX commands - however, I heard there is an update on the works which might have MIDI stuff in it (possibly integration with ZenBeats) and that might give us an opportunity to build a community editor for it.

I understand that C0 is not a valid data byte within a SysEx message. However, I wonder if it was just a typo from the original poster.

I don't have a MC-707. I have a MC-101. It responds to a SysEx universal identity requests as follows:

$ amidi -p hw:1,0,0 -d -t3 -S "F0 7E 7F 06 01 F7"

F07E7F0602415E03000000010000F7
15 bytes read
Based on that, I guess the model id of the MC-101 is 00 00 00 5E, and I am fairly confident that my MC-101 reacts to Roland-standard DT1 requests using this model id.

Can someone use the above command with a MC-707, to check if the MC-707 responds to SysEx universal identity requests, and if so, how it identifies itself?
