I think you have to change the the thing (I think it's the driver) in global settings that says, "vendor" to "generic."
THIS...
The "vendor" midi mode keeps the device as a singular ecosystem with screwed up knob config, switched off or swapped signal chains and some really dumb choices.. honestly, if youre going to give a lowly 3knobs to control an entire 4 part synth part, at LEAST LET US CHOOSE which knob does what...
Really stupid set up here, and totally avoidable and pointless... and the sales pitches & flaky online reviews by ppl who got freebie units but couldnt be bothered to actually USE the thing properly misled MANY people on this... MANY MC707s were returned .. 7 from people i know who bought one of htese and returned it when they realised they couldnt use it like a basic synth... everything was integrated and internalised into the unit... not playing nice with other machines...
The generic mode makes do with this stupidity, and unlocks the entire device. I dno why Roland did it this way because the audio interface isnt reliant on midi per se, (not in the sense of controls) , but further, Zencore plugin DOESNT act as a VST editor regardless of midi mode.
U CAN create a patch in ZEncore, but u cant send it to the device, nor can u use the device to play said patch..nor can u make a patch on the MC and xfer to Zencore plugin... in fact, u cant (to this day) export a patch...thats mindblowing..
It really is stupid and unintuitive and theres absolutely NO reason for the MC to be crippled in such a manner.
Trully abhorent conduct by Roland..
Roland updated the crippled midi config and got rid of the midi lockout..
STILL needs ALOT more work in this dept...
And if they need storage, how about allowing us to kill off some of the useless PCMs... Thatd save afew MB to sort this issue out and even toss in the MC303's arpegiator...
Heres hoping they open the ENTIRE device to ALL parameters like a normal frign synth.. And actually LET US use the midi implementatin chart like every other ROland synth...
Heres ALSO hoping they let us allocate any knob to any setting for any channel, coz some tracks/clips dont always need realtime controls (looper tracks), so their respective knobs are literally sitting there unused... SMH...
This way we can set knobs on track 8 (eg looper track or mod matriced pad which dont need knob) to control levels of drum parts on track1 drums (as an example) THIS would at LEAST adress SOME of the MCs lack of ability to mute drum parts legacy MC style..
As it stands, we're stuck with 'drum track mute' being global drum track on said track.. the WHOLE thing gets muted and u cant mute drum parts individually... unless Im missing something..
THAT is a waste of resources forcing one to create multiple clips just to have the ability to mute and unmute hats or snares or build up open hats or manually kill hates while launching a drum roll.. ALL of that can be done with ONE clip IF you could mute the parts individually.. but as you cant, u HAVE TO write new clips for each of those variations..
Again, absolutely STUPID.. and like i said , whoever designed the UI and setup management of this device, should be fired.
Im not kidding..
This is an awesome engine, with a half ar$ed GUI, memory, patch library setup, rushed out to the shelves when it needs MUCH more work.
To this day, this unit needs ALOT of work, and it quite stunning to think that ROland are pumping out all this gear, yet somehow leaving the MC707 quickly lose users coz it STILL doesnt do have the things my ancient RS7000 can do...
This unit could be SO MUCH MORE.. .yet its discarded by hardcore users coz it OWNT do even the most basic of basics.
Not everyone loves or needs 3000+ presets.. & its a waste of space.. if they wanted to sell a tone generator, make a tone generator... Wna sell a groovebox, make a groovebox that does what people NEED it to do...
Selling it as a Zencore device, then NOT having the ability to save a basic patch in a library (without the clip) is just a wow moment for me...
30yrs at this and THAT was the FIRST thing I thought about... Where and how do I save my sound.. I want to use this sound in my plugin or play it on my JupiterXM..
Err u cant... oops...
Not without said patch being embedded in a clip... which WONT open in anywhere other than an MC unit.. so.. yeah.
Thats just ONE screw up.. and its THE most basic..
Mindblowingly faaaaaarqd...
Dno wtf Roland were smoking, but if we could use this as an outboard synth, its be one of the most powerful units on the market and even give u more junctions than 16x JP8000s if u program it smartly and set up proper XMod and KB splits..
Not everyone is a noob and not everyone is a stooge..
Give us a straight up synth with access to all parameters via midi CC, PC, Sysex & NRPN, like every other synth..
Turn the VSTi into a midi out editor and kill the $200 price tag.. its almost as bad as the Gaia Rort..
Now im babbling like a madman, but before i go, there ARE Ableton Max4Live interfaces which DO give u access to ALOT of the MCs parameters, except editing patches via remote of course... fkn Roland.. any more shenanians, Id say theyre doing a Canon with all this ridiculous deliberate crippling of devices... Totally shameful and abhorent..
In any case, these Max4Live devices do cost money (thankfully not like the $200 ZEncore Pro plugin scam.. ) but at least u can access the device remotely, AND you can suss out the settings so as to set up a midi controller to correlate with the plugn and the device itself, allowing u to control said paramters using whatever sugnal necesary.
Some controller KBs have filter or program options, allowing a knob or slider to function via CC, Sysex or NRPN allowing u to remotely control FX (as an example) or use not so standard control messages..
As an example, lets take the TB3... Im using a Max4Live tb3 interface, allowingme to edit ALL the parameters of the TB3 via sysex.. inc effects.. i mean where the hell is the distortion and delay fx chain.. thats the first thing u do with a 303 ffs.. alas, its not on the TB3, so u gta make one..
SO these max4live lets u access and program ALL the hidden paramters and effect settings, inc and oscilator setup and even unison and detune (portable JP8000.. yes... and no, not kidding... this unit splits the osc signal like a champ... with mix and xmod functions , multi fx, multi ioscilators and all controlabl evia a programable KB controller that lets u program Sysex and NRPN.. SO NOW my TB3 is now behaving like a multieffect capable proper monosynth.. a basstation2 on steroids you could say...
So yeah, Lots magic possible IF and ONLY IF Roland stop being d!cks and just unlock the entire device.. else we gta reverse engineer it and hack it for ourselves, like the Gaia farce and the MC909 abandonment
I ramble too much...
Chk those Max4Live and suss out the controller setup .. then simply copy those to a master controller.. or sequencer...
Thats the only solution i can think of atm...
