Cosmetic defect on new Jupiter X.

Yesterday my new X arrived and so far I have been enjoying it. Reading the manual is a requirement.

A few mins after plugging it in I noticed an odd defect in the finish, then I found a few more. It looks like something got under the paint / silk screen at the factory. Is this common and on most X’s or did I get unlucky.

Mine has one.

I hadn't noticed it actually until I went looking. It only shows up if the light is just right, despite how bad it looks in the photo.

I could tolerate one hard to spot defect. Thanks for the help.
Nervous to try another one, wish more people chimed in.

Hey all, my Jupiter-X has a couple tiny spots on the black paint that look like little air pockets, maybe three or four overall. I think this is normal. I tried another unit and it was the same but in different spots.

I also noted that the feel of the sliders felt different from unit to unit. Mine don't all feel exactly the same "weight" when moving them, but all work 100%. The second unit I tried felt completely different and less consistent so I kept the first unit.

Hope that helps!

Well that is a little disconcerting. I had hoped that this was an isolated thing and swapping my unit out would be the answer. Sounds like its a roll of the dice, and I may get one with similar defects and janky sliders. I choose to spend the big bucks to avoid these kind of situations. I don't understand why Roland cannot paint these things without defects or maybe it is a QA thing. My email from Roland support said that the paint defects are not normal. I may just return it and wait to see if I miss this enough to buy another one.

Sorry you could not get a flawless unit and thanks for the post.

Well my two Jupiter 80s are absolutely flawless. They are made in Japan though. It might have something to do with that.

Is the bigger Jupiter-X made? Is it China and not Japan? I had a Jupiter-80 which was built in Japan and it was excellent in built quality and quality control. I sold it when I got my System-8 because of synthesis/sounds. The System-8 is not made in Japan and is inferior in build quality (shorter keys and mostly plastic casing) but no blemishes on the panel like the Jupiter-X that have been reported. I had contemplated the Jupiter-X but after having tried the Xm, I was not fond of the user interface and the analog emulations (while improved over the Jupiter-80) are inferior to those of the System-8. Anyway, those defects in the paint job of the Jupiter-X would make me unhappy too. That is supposed to be Roland’s premium “Jupiter” product. Also can anyone confirm if the slider stems on the Jupiter-X are metal or plastic?

Most of Roland electronic music gear is assembled in Malaysia for a while now:
