No Multisampling, big deal?

No Multisampling, big deal?

Hi All,

I am brand new to the forum. I am seriously considering buying the new Fantom. I see a lot of concern/criticisms of this workstation currently not handling multisampling. Couldn't I use a dedicated hardware sampler connected to the keyboard? Or is it something I'm overlooking?

Thank you all.

You could, but that would make the Fantom one hell of an expensive controller option. If that’s your intention you would do better to just get a 1/10th the price Arturia or even cheaper.

It’s a synth and ROMpler, i.e. It is a hardware sampler... without sampling capability, that’s why people want (and expect) it to be able to sample.

In next firmware there will be the possibility to use User multisamples

It sucks not to have it for some stuff. 808 samples and such. But you can create a ton of different sounds with the default wave tables. I've never been a big sound designer person but this thing is fun just making different sounds. Multisampling is coming in next update for sure though.

I use Mainstage integration & Kontakt and/or external control of a Kronos. I prefer not to live on an island and choose to integrate my Fantom with existing gear.

These are all good points. I have also been looking to see what the sequencer resolution is, but I can't find info? what's the PPQ on the sequencer? I'm sure it's pretty high but I'm curious. Thanks

Roland has not said this, so that may be a rumor, hearsay, hope or whatever, but it's not announced by Roland.

I have safe sources: the user multisamples can be used in the Fantom. the update is scheduled for September, maximum October

Multisamples are a big deal.

As for now scenes and tones are (nearly) self-contained. If you only use unaltered preset tones, you can swap scenes and get a 1:1 copy. Using multisamples you always have to swap a corresponding sample folder too.

The possibility to import and export single multisamples would be a big deal.

I hope they will then implement that we will get 64 Samples scenewise and not only global too like they did in the FA.

Roland reps said multi-sampling is coming soon very possibly in next firmware update in the Ed Diaz Youtube tutorials.
