Hi gurshahbaaz,
You need a 512Mb (3.3 V) "low-profile" DIMM.
Best bet is to keep an eye on ebay.

For $12 today you can get 2 x 1 GB. (One -spare) I have installed similar one in my X8.
Hold on, I thought there was only one DIMM slot and 512Mb was the maximum amount of RAM the synth could 'see'... I am confused!

I confirm that there's only ONE DIMM slot, but never tried with larger than 512GB.

Anyways, you have an idea of how long it would take to load more that 512GB of samples into the Fantom X? This is the main reason why I try to stay away from samples. Those are cool, but less is often better IMHO

... And 512GB PC133 is often about $5 s/h included on e-Bay... This is dirt cheap now.

I have a few user samples that get loaded in on startup (Linn and Roland R8 drums, DX7 FullTines, Yamaha CP70 plus a few Fairlight CMI and Emulator II samples) but I've given up on loading lots of samples from the card. It takes far too long, which is why I am holding onto my trusty Akai S5000 sampler (128 voices, 256Mb RAM, 36Gb internal HD, external SCSI CD-ROM drive with massive library, 16 outputs but no USB yet).

Page 244 of the Fantom X manual states that sample RAM can be "expanded up to 64 / 128 / 256 / 512 Mb". This implies that you cannot exceed that limit; a 1Gb or more DIMM may work but the keyboard will only see the first 512Mb and the rest will be ignored. Either way, remember that there is only one RAM expansion slot.
You will also have the built-in 32Mb available on top of your user-installed memory so you could have up to 512Mb + 32Mb = 544Mb sample RAM, which is what mine has.

The 5 possible configurations are as follows:

No DIMM + internal 32Mb = 32Mb available
64Mb DIMM + internal 32Mb = 96Mb available
128Mb DIMM + internal 32Mb = 160Mb available
256Mb DIMM + internal 32Mb = 288Mb available
512Mb DIMM + internal 32Mb = 544Mb available

I actually use 1GB of RAM on my X6 and it works fine. Most PC100 or PC133 DIMMs should work, but I suggest buying one that specifically states compatibility with the Fantom just to be sure.

Ebay example:

That is surprising that the Fantom X can handle 1 GIG .

If you have a song with about 6 minutes of Guitar Tracks ( total ) .

Will these load in about 5 to 10 minutes ?

Yes, this will load MUCH quicker than 5 minutes, but then a 5 minutes sample is only about 50 Mb samples. You can put about 20 of those in 1 Gb memory
