POLY1 & POLY2

POLY1 & POLY2

Hi

I'm trying to find out what the POLY1 and POLY2 settings mean that you get to by selecting the MONO button. These only appear when the System 8 is set to either the Jupiter 8 or Juno 106 plug-outs. Can anyone shed some light on this please?

Also I'm A/B comparing the Sytems 8's J8 plug-out to a Jupiter 8 we have at work and I have noticed that the J8 sounds more spread out as if a slight pan feature similar to a DSI synth has been applied. (key mode on the J8 is set to Whole) I'm wondering if it is possible to pan the sound from the System 8 and thus recreate this. Or for those that know can the original J8's voices be panned during a calibration for example and that this is not a factory feature? Otherwise the sound of the plug-out is very close to the real deal perhaps a tad brighter but it is very easy to adjust that.

This seems to be the assign mode setting from the jupiter (and I presume the juno)
One key feature of the Jupiter-8 is its unique user Assign Modes; Solo, Unison, Poly 1 and Poly 2. Solo mode turns the Jupiter-8 into a monophonic synth, with all 16 oscillators combining on each note. Use this mode for a thick sounding, monophonic bass line or lead. The difference between Poly 1 and Poly 2 modes is the release time of the last note played.

Thanks that certainly helps explain the POLY1 & POLY2 modes. :-) And as to the panning the original had only mix, lower and upper outputs so as to panning this may be something to do with how our J8 is patched into the mixing desk.
