Can a pad (rythm) be triggered by an external midi device?

Can a pad (rythm) be triggered by an external midi device?

Hi,

I would like to be able to trigger the pads remotely. I assigned them to Rythm Pattern.
Can an external midi device trigger these pads like I pressed them on the Fantom G itself?

Thanks.

Not the PADs specifically no ;-),
but you can trigger the Drum sounds from an external MIDI controller/Pad, provided you send the right SySex messages.

Paulo! I am ashamed of you! Sending sexually explicit messages is strictly forbidden here, at the Roland Clan.

You and Sy, whoever he is, should stop "sexting" at once!

Thanks,
But could you be more specific? I checked the midi implementation and could not find a clue how to trigger a rhythm phrase.

a lot of fun, but useless replies.

If you are using the pads to trigger sounds from a Rhythm Kit then the pads just respond to specific MIDI note numbers.

If you are using the pads for other things (RPS etc) it may be possible, but as an owner of the X flavoured Fantom, rather than the G, I can't help you there.

The way I did it on the X was by recording the MIDI trigger messages (when pressing the Pads) on the Fantom's sequencer. Then micro edit those messages to get the SysEx data for each Pad.

This is a very tedious job, as for each Drum Kit you need to do this for all the 16 Pads.

As Andy just said, maybe it's better to build RPS patterns, as much as the ones you need for your performances, and then triggering them from the main keyboard, as they normally are.

Unfortunately as I actually don't own any of these beasts (X or G) so I can't be more specific than this

I hope this helps

Thanks.
I'm out of options. I tried to record the messages once the pads were pressed, but the only thing recorded are the actual notes of the rhythm pattern itself. The trigger is not sent as a midi message.
Another option was to trigger it by keys, but I need a remote keyboard to trigger them. And although the Remote Keyboard Switch has been switched on, a remote keyboard apparently cannot be used to use trigger RPS or Rhythm patterns.

A remote keyboard can do it, but you need to send the Right SysEx messages first.

In Micro Edit you should see the Midi messages... Well... I'm talking about the X. Maybe the G is different here...

I recorded and then pressed the pads which triggers the rhythm pattern. The only thing in microedit are the notes of the pattern. No exclusive message.

Tonneman, have you got the system settings set to transmit and receive edit data (system exclusive)?

Hi Andy,

Yes, these are set correctly, to transmit and receive edit data.
