File management

Re: File management

It was late at night but IIRC it took almost 2 minutes to restore from the USB backup.

Sounds like some refinements are in the works.
a VST would solve the problem of backing up patches live sets and registrations
I mean its the 21st century..
nearly all modern boards have editors and or VSTs

hmm,

2mins?.. bang goes my theory of rapid update/swap to allow extra 256 registrations for the live players.. :)

I am also struggling like you with how it would ever be possible to integrate a patch or registration from another user, given the current scheme.. but I would guess this will be fixed.. at a minumum os update for live set & registration save to USB....

I would agree with Quinnx tho.. it is most likely that an editor/librarian is forthcoming..

Load time can be influenced by the type of USB card one has, so load times can vary from user to user, at least that’s how things usually work. I agree that Roland will most likely make a computer editor for the Jupiter-80, they did for a number of their past synths.

I wouldn't say an Editor, as the Synth seems quite easily Editable from the front Panel and Touch Display, but a kind of a Librarian, like for the V-Synths and Fantoms. That would be awesome to solve those Inport/Export issues.
Let's wait and see...

Hi PauloF!

I don’t disagree regarding the Jupiter-80’s front panel. However, Roland normally makes both a librarian and editor, the editor is good for times when one wishes to trigger sounds from a computer program (for example) and has a desire to edit a synth in a different way, with the synth’s sound editing options in the same environment (on the computer screen) along with any given software one chooses, regardless of the synth's location.

Hi Amazing, I agree with you, only that taking into consideration:
1- the ammount of parameters and functions you can tweak from the front panel
2- the easy and intuitive way you do it using the touch screen (like on the V-Synths)
I don't see Roland doing it, but of course I could be totally wrong ( It wouldn't be the first time lol)

Regarding a Librarian, that I can imagine that would be much more feaseble... JMHO

take care

Hi PauloF!

There was no conflict concerning your first or second premise, as previously discussed, in the following quote.

So we resolved the issues contained in the quotes above.

However, seeing how you agree with me but offered two factors against the possible development of a Jupiter-80 editor, one can conclude that premise 1 and 2 from your argument did not negate the alternative discussed in my quote below.

And seeing how premise 1 and 2 from your argument does not provide a solution for the conditions in my quote above, it is not logical to assume that your premises will cause Roland to dismiss my argument and decide against developing a Jupiter-80 editor. But that’s not to say that they may not have other reasons for choosing not to make one, just have to wait and see I suppose, but I think the odds that they will are good.

Wow, What an answer... You almost lost me! Lol
Summarizing...
For me, if they do the Librarian for file and Tone/Live Set/Registration manipulation it would be awesome! And more than logical.
If they decide to do both the Librarian and Editor (or an Editor/Librarian) That would be just superb!!
;-D

Lol…Agreed PauloF!

I’m glad we reached this compromise, and no worries, I’m sure a lot of people are somewhat lost concerning our discussion…lol!

Good show! :-D

No! Actually, I'm not sure! I just finished talking with my friend Adrian Marsi, who is the Pro Keyboards Product Specialist for Roland Corporation here in Canada. At this point, the back-up function is the only option. However, he has already "fed back some comments about user back up options to (our) engineers". Sounds like some refinements are in the works.

It makes all sense!! that and a Librarian ;-D

Good point PauloF, but as I recall, you were in favor of both an editor and librarian. I know it’s tiring to express full details on every occasion, but I feel the way you expressed this in another post makes things so clear and really shows your tendency to embrace superior ideas and submit the given conclusion for all to see..
