Skipping in the transition

Skipping in the transition

I'm having some problems getting the RPS quantize measure feature to work. I re-read Lawrences tutorial. Do I actually have to push the play button and then select my pad?? And, if I dont want to mute the track data, do I actually do erase or delete??

In order for RPS patterns to be in sync (when the RPS trigger is set to beat or measure), you have to have the sequencer playing. You can just have an empty one-bar loop running and then RPS sync will work if you play the pads over this sequence.

Can't get what you mean here. Would you please explain more?

In the Track Edit screen, there are many selections including Quantize etc. There is an erase button and a delete button. Which one would I use there? Does it matter? I think Lawrence used the terminology "erase" in the tutorial but I'm at work and cant try it to see which one works right now. (I dont have a computer at home)

Erase works the same as Delete, but Delete removes the measures as well, and erase leaves blank measures.

For example, you have a sequence: AAAABBBBCCCC (12 full bars).

If you erase the range of BBBB, you will get AAAA____CCCC (12 bars: 4 full, 4 empty, 4 full), where _ is a blank measure.

If you use delete for BBBB, you will have AAAACCCC (8 full bars).

So does it matter which one I use as it relates to the RPS?? IN order to get my patterns to play correctly with RPS sync?? Do I ahve to manually set up a loop measure or something?? I know this would be easier if I were in front of my board but I'm just trying to get the idea.

Thanks

I just don't really understand what you mean. If you want to move your tracks to patterns which you'll then use in RPS mode, then it doesn't matter whether you use Erase or Delete. With Erase, you'll have blank measures, with Delete, you'll have empty tracks.

If you want to play the patterns in sync, use Delete for all tracks, then record one empty bar, loop it, then hit play and play the RPS patterns.

Thanks Artemio. Without understanding me, youve answered my question just fine :)

Doh -- One more question... If I set the measure to loop, when I save the song, will it save that setting as well?? Or do I have to set the loop up each time I load the song??

Always glad to help ;-)

Yes, this setting will be saved. RPS status won't be saved though, you'll have to push the RPS button after the song loads.

Ok. Artemio, that worked great last night. As far as getting it to play in the next measure, etc. However, the transition between the two patterns was not smooth at all. There is a very noticeable 'skip' between the two. For background here is how I arrived to this point. I recorded a simple track that consisted of a piano, bass, and drums. Recorded at 150 bpm. I recorded this in the sequencer in order. (Ie. I played an intro ---> verse ---> chorus // all without stopping the sequencer. Its about 30 bars long total -- all seemless in the sequencer.) I then 'copied' all tracks from bars 1-4 into pattern 1(intro). I then 'copied' all tracks from bars 5-18 into pattern 2(verse). Then I 'copied' all tracks from bars 19-30 into pattern 3(chorus). Once I did this, I deleted all of the tracks, recorded a 1 bar loop, assigned everything correctly in the RPS and gave it a try.

Now while it played in the sequencer seemlessly before transferring to patterns, when I play them in the same order that they were in the sequencer, there is that very noticeable skip between each pattern. What am I doing wrong??

TomC, this probably is an internal Fantom-X flaw, that's all I can say.
