[SOLVED] Fantom X8 USB driver installation never completes

I'm trying to install the Fantom-X USB driver for Windows 7 64-bit, but it never completes. It comes to the window: "Please use a USB cable to connect the FANTOM-X and your computer, and then turn on the power of the FANTOM-X, and wait. The driver will be installed automatically"

When I go to the Fantom X8 Menu and select USB, to conenct to the computer, the Fantom appears as a USB drive in my Windows explorer, which shows to me that the cable and comms is OK. I also tried a different USB cable, but no success.

The only option I have in the install window is to "Cancel". I also tried a Factory reset on my X8 - but still no joy. I've downloaded driver: fantom_x_xr_win7_x64_v100.zip

Any ideas. Even when i start Cubase, the Fantom USB driver is not detected.

Hi wicus.

As far as i can remember, when i had a similar problem i found a free tool from Roland called CLEAN ALL - it basically erases all Roland drivers.

I gave it a try anyway, but it complains about my unsupported O/S. I'm really thinking of Upgrading from Windows7 to WinXP 64 bit, as the switch from WinXP to Win7 caused so may driver issues for me - that it was really in fact a downgrade to move from winXP to Win7. None of the mucisians in my circle of friends who switched from XP to Win7, is still on Win7 - all of them went back.

Is the fantom in USB storage mode? If so change it to USB midi mode. Hit Menu, then sytem, then USB and change mode to MIDI. Unplug USB cable before changing modes and plug in USB cable after PC is up. I'm not using Win7 but it works in Vista so maybe.

This solved the problem for me. It's just weird that it goes back to USB storage mode everytime I switch the X8 on-off.

You are welcome. Glad it worked. Yes that how it works. You have to do a system write in order for it to stay in mode after you power off.

There's an option to Write the System settings to make them permanent somewhere in the System menu. If you don't do that it will revert to the previous settings when you power up next time.
