ROLAND SRX, SR-JV80, ETC... polyphony

Do the old Roland expansion cards have their own polyphony (like the new ARX cards)... or does the polyphony count against the polyphony of the of the synth that it sits in? (fantom X, XV, etc...)

The old cards did not add any polyphony.
