XV-3080 or JV-1080

XV-3080 or JV-1080

26 Oct 2010, 19:03
XV-3080 will cost me $250 shipped

JV-1080 will cost me $135 shipped (with an expansion card, not sure which one, but it's the one Ken is selling)

What do you think is the best option?

I've not heard either of them personally, but the are both pretty popular synths in my genre of music.

I'm going to get one... based on the opinion of you all. The GURUS

(p.s. one of my friends bought my p-330 piano module. I was planning on buying the MKS-20 piano module, but the one I was eyeing was gone by the time the guy paid me.... So..I'm wanting to replace it)

Thanks

I replaced my JV-880 with a 1080 a while back and I'm happy with it, been getting back into it lately and some sounds are really great. The synth sounds and pad type things can be very good. I have a Vintage Synth card and Orchestral card in it, both of which are good. The stock piano and EPs are not my cup of tea though. The pianos can be useable but they are pretty basic and I can't stand the EPs, very dated sounding. The EP waves suck. I've just bought the Session board for it which is supposedly has the best piano in the SRJV80 range plus some other good quality sounds. I may get the 60s 70s board down the track, which from the demos sounds very good. I don't have an XV3080 but its a few generations down the line and probably more advanced. For an extra 125 bucks it may be worth it. I'd check out it's specs.

I'm thinking so. And that price includes a 1 year warranty (accident coverage too)

I'm sure my Roland JX-305 uses the same sound engine. The raw onboard preset sounds sure make nice pads after a few tweeks that sound identical to the JV-1080. I can get some massive sweeping passes after adjusting the LFO's, Attack, Decay, Sustain, Reverb, Release, Depth, Cutoff & Resonance nobs. With those abilities I can also get the onboard drum machine to sound like a TR 808 too.

The JX-305 is such an underated workstation. It makes me laugh when people say it's a MC-505 with keys. Those same folk produce everything in their DAW & miss the results of persistant tweeking & tone exploration with hardware.

I was going to buy a JV-1080 myself until I heard what the JX-305 could do.

The JV-1080's sounds are legendary in my opinion. The D-70 would be my next choice.

You Tube is a great place to hear your choices in action. My ears decide how much something is worth.

apex- sorry to hear. :(

too late but man, you should've bought the JV from me when you had the chance. (hahaha, im just kidding!)

but my unit was practically new considering how little milage it had even though it was like a decade old.

and you would get full refund back if something i sold was damaged during transit. GL with the warranty repair!

they actually told me I could have a complete refund... but I'm not sure if I wouldn't rather just let them repair it... I mean I got it for $250... (based on ebay sales, that seems like a great deal....)

sounds like that worked out well. The XV-5080 was the best it ever got as far as I know. last one before the Fantoms. far more powerful than a JV-1080. BTW I just bought the session board for my 1080 and it's actually really good. Some great sounds. Breathed some new life into old girl!

Edit: I was searching around for some programming tips for my 1080 a while back and found these:

theres are a series of 4. Enjoy!

cool! i still have my FA76 laying around idle and it's like the keyboard version of the 5080. :D (with less slots).

trying to see if someone wants it locally. the backlight is slow to turn on (takes like a min before the LCD fires up) so cant really sell it for much.
