Nylon guitar library coming to Fantom-G!

Hey all,

I think many, many Fantom-G owners will be happy to find out that Sinevibes will soon break the barrier and release the first acoustic instrument library for the Fantom-G.

It is a genuine Spanish guitar, recorded using a custom technique. In simple words, we have split the guitar sound into several parts like strings, body, noises, ambience - and by mixing different versions of these with varying levels, you can literally "construct" your own guitar sound. Sort of like V-Guitar ARX board, actually - but all is built from acoustic samples, no kind of processing that would make it sound artificial.

There will be a plenty pre-made live sets and single patches, of course, too. You can preview three of them in this demo:

Stay tuned for full details! Target release date is first two weeks of August.

preview sounds awesome, can't wait, this one i have to buy.

that preview is awesome! You should definitely put it on ARX card and like you said called it V Guitar-ARX. I don't care if its $400 or $500, I will definitely get one in the CARD form. Roland maybe should consider you doing this in ARX cause I know you will definitely do a great job on this since you started already and besides you know what we are looking for. Roland should give you the contract for this project. Why in ARX card? I think the best deserves ARX like this Acoustic-guitar that you started. good job man...that was awesome!

en76, I don’t agree so much with you about the ARX and the price. I think for some of us, the price is the barrier. How many of us have bought the ARX1 and ARX2? IMHO, the better way is to give choices to the musicians. Either you buy the sounds you like or you buy the full set (or the ARX card).

about time they introduced ARX Acoustic Guitar. if you look back on some of the ARX discussions, ive always mentioned that we need both ARX Piano and ARX Guitar.

well, if it's in software form and cheaper, the better!!! :p

Glad you like the demo guys! Final information should be available in around 3 weeks, and full release in 4 weeks after final testing.

en76 - sorry but ARX is impossible and actually makes no sense... This will be a project with about 30 MB of data that anyone can load even without the RAM upgrade. And the price will be 10x less than ARX.

Sounds really good. Channeling a little Tommy Emmanuel there with the knocks(never mind he plays steel strings). I don't know the wide world of guitar sample libraries very well, but more percussion elements would be excellent.

I have to ask tho, is this demo the guitar or the samples played on the board? I thought I heard a few lingering notes, but can't be sure.

This is a pretty big deal for Sinevibes.

Wow, sounds amazing. Definitely gonna buy this!

dbijoux, that's played on the Fantom-G of course - and yes the library comes with various noises such as picking, finger slides, body knocking etc.

I think this is a great idea, and you should definitely consider making more acoustic instrument libraries!

The SineVibes synth libraries are great, but not a must-have (at least for me) since I can easily create my own synth patches on the G and I was never willing to dish out more money on some patches.

However, sampling acoustic instruments is much harder and very time consuming (and for people who don't have all the gear - impossible), and if you were to make a sampled acoustic piano of this quality, or a string library, I wouldn't even think twice before snatching it.

Who needs ARX anyway? :)

Gil, it's cool that you're creating your sounds but I think you're underestimating the sounds Sinevibes offer ;-) Take a look at Organics and Voices for example, they're totally sample-based and deliver what the Fantom-G cannot do with it's own sound engine. Organic features a lot of pads, for instance, that were created using spectral resynthesis. Voices uses our custom technique of creating human choir sounds out of real sampled vocals.

Hey Artemiy, I am by no means underestimating Sinvibes' sounds.
I think the expansions sound fantastic and I know they include many sampled sounds that cannot be done on the G.

What I was trying to say is that creating synth patches, either directly on the G or on another synth and then sampling it, is not very difficult and actually a lot of fun for me . I get a lot of satisfaction from creating my own unique sounds for my music, and many of my musical ideas actually derive from my experiments with sound creation.

But I'd never attempt to sample a real acoustic piano, or even import an already sampled piano to the G. Too much work. Same goes for any other acoustic instrument. That's why I'd be willing to spend good money on some quality acoustic libraries.

BTW, can you explain how you use spectral resynthesis? Sounds interesting, I've never done that before.

Gil, there are a few synths that analyze the sound, splitting into small time chops, and then splitting each chop into hundreds of frequency bands (512, 1024, 2048...), and finally resynthesizing each time chop using primitive sine waves. This allows you to work in time and frequency domains separately, and also adjust the frequency bands in a way a filter or EQ would not let you.

An example of hardware that does this is the V-Synth. In software I have Spectron (from iZotope) and Morphine (from Image Line). There is also Absynth (NI) and Alchemy (Camel Audio) but I think I have enough tools already :-)
