Wave Memory

Wave Memory

I was reading through the specs for this model, and it lists "wave memory" as "64 megabyte, 16 bit linear equivalent." Can someone please explain what this means? I have experience with analog and virtual analog synths, but I'm new to dealing with sample-based synths.

The sounds in the JUNO-Di are based on samples, and the specification tells how much memory all included samples occupy.

Thanks, Art. I thought that might be the case, but I was expecting that the samples would take up a much larger amount of memory, gigabytes rather than megabytes. The ROM is not much larger than that on the Alesis Quadrasynth series from the 1990s.

Yes it's hard to believe all that stuff fits inside. But since most instrument samples are looped, Roland is able to squeeze quite a lot into this little amount of RAM.
