Project Confusion

I am confused about the Project concept. First of all what is the difference between Save As or Backup to USB. Do both save the same data to include Songs and SMF files. After I did a Project Save As and went back into my Song List and SMF List my songs and standard midi files were gone. Also what is the differnce between Load Projec and Restore Project from USB. The manual stinks with explaining this and many other issues.

Project is what holds your user single/studio/live patches, samples and audio tracks, phrases and songs. You can have multiple projects on the USB drive and thus be able to save and recall multiple different setups for different tasks, live shows or albums, etc.

Now, Save As should only be used if you want to make a duplicate of the currently loaded project. In this case you need to assign it a different name from the original project.

If you just want to save certain type of data that you've worked on, like a new song, you should use the WRITE button. Project functions are only for manipulating whole projects at once.

I made this same mistake of using Save As to save my Project (with a different name from the original). When I reloaded the saved Project, I also found all my Songs and SMF files were gone. That was a whole year's work just wasted.
I can't tell you how peeved I was. I still haven't discovered how you can save your songs to a computer so that you can start a new Project.
I still haven't been able to muster the drive to get stuck back in and re-record all my songs.
Certainly would appreciate any help in saving songs to my PC so that I can avoid this happening again.
Kind regards,
Shug

Hi Artemiy,

now that's me who is confused.
Until now I always saved my work with the WRITE buttons and before POWER OFF with the SAVE PROJECT button.

While reading this forum I learned with your help yesterday that I don't need the SAVE PROJECT button. WRITE is enough and WRITE SONG saves all the changes of the moment in the momentary project.

I understand also the SAVE AS PrOJECT button to give the project another name.

But, why do I need the SAVE PROJECT button then?

No, you do need Save Project, it's just not a necessity in most cases. What Save Project does is save all your unsaved data, like your current song, all unsaved phrases and all unsaved samples. This means it's handy when you did a lot of work and want to save it all at once.

Some people, though, report that it may not save certain things but it's hard to believe they are not using Save As instead. Save always worked fine for me. Although I use WRITE on every piece of data I do.
