I expect NAMM to be at the Anaheim Convention Center, 800 West Katella Avenue, Anaheim, CA 92802.

Thursday, January 14...............10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Friday, January 15.....................10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Saturday, January 16................10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Sunday, January 17...................10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Remember! If you keep your expectations relatively low, than there is less of a chance that you will be dis-appointed!

*Sigh* the only rumor that I've heard is that I'm not gonna be there.

Ah well.

Yes we did.

I heard from a less than reliable source that Apple and Roland have a joint venture going. The long-rumored Apple Tablet is going to showcase it's multi-touch capabilities with a realistic rendition of the Roland Fantom. Those who like weighted keys will be able to purchase special lead-loaded gloves. Imagine the possibilities...

As always, I'll be looking for a "G" rack module. Obviously sans the giant screen, but with full VSTi capabilities (in Cubase it should show up as a soft-synth), and the ability to be played via a USB controller without needing an external power supply - i.e. USB powers the controller just like the computer. Then I could take my Edirol PCR-800 and my Fantom-G rack to a gig and be reasonably lightweight and yet killer sound. Probably aint gonna happen, but as always, I'll be hoping.

On the other hand, is it time for a "super" Fantom-G?

2TIM316: Yeah the idea of a uber-portable Fantom-G, in the form of a rackmount machine, is very tempting for me too.
Definately with more ARX slots than the keyboard version and maybe more Audio/MIDI I/O connectivity (even only through the USB port). And if they can make it like the V-Synth XT (tabletop and rackmount too and with retractable rack ears too) it would be dreamy as a concept. And please don't throw the USB Audio/MIDI interface away. :-)

LOL - More ARX slots for what? Boards that will never be created I guess. Oh, they'll probably throw a bone at the "G" users with some brass board or something. But nothing like what ARX could really be great at like a virtual analog synth, or virtual B-3, or something similar. Nope, won't see that I reckon.

Where have you been, 2Tim316? The 'Brass' board already exists! LOL

Hey SammyJames, i hear you! That's my case here. Well, what can you do? In my case, go back yo the keys and try to do some music. But at least we can find out the news with the web. Imagine back in the 80's when it would take months for somebody like me living in south america to find out what's coming up. Thank God for the internet!

Franc:

Yeah man. You are so right about the Internet.

The real reason why I'm bummed about NAMM this year has less to do with gear lust, and more with my own aspirations. But I'm really not upset -- I'm actually scared @#$!%less that some company will have already created the synth that I'm busy working on as we speak. (It is doubtful anyway, because what I'm trying to do is actually very difficult.)

I'll have photos and videos in a couple of months. I'm quite serious, by the way, about not just building this thing -- I'm going to manufacture it. if you like what you see and hear, you'll probably be able to even BUY one -- eventually.

It is more than vaporware now.

It is becoming a reality.

The stars are ours...

Stay tuned.

Yes we did.

That's cool Sammy! The thought has crossed my mind once or twice lately about trying to deisgn my own keyboard for specific needs. But, I think the 5 years it might take me would keep me from practicing...and I need a lot of practicing. ;-)

I let you make if for me now!

Yes Sammy! I remember when we were talking about the Synth Brittania documentary sometime ago that you mentioned about the synth that you were creating. Keep us informed. I'm sure there will be a lot of people interested here. A new year, a new synth coming...what can be better? Wish you success mate.
