soundwise am i looking at the same machine? i dont need the sequencer or sampler but could really use the extra 500 bucks. will i be sacrificingmuch soundwise if i go with the di?
About soundwise, I think they are the same 128 poly and 64Mbytes ROM, no master fx, and compressor for Di (but who needs that if you don't need sequencer)
If you don't need sampling and sequencing, apart from the display there is not much difference between the G and the Di, with an exception that on the Di there is a vocoder. Don't hesitate
If you don't need the sequencer.., then the Di's the one to go with here. Very close in sounds.., ROM on both is 64 mb's, both have 4 osc synth engines, ect. Plus you can save some money
I played the g and di, theres no real difference except for basic workstation setups and a terribly designed interface. Go with the Di, the sounds are magnificant and well worth your money. My only plight is that the keys are poorly designed.
What do you expect with $700 or less? real piano key? 10 years ago, $1000 you couldn't get a keyboard. Ask people here, how much did they pay for their JUNO-6?
I paid 300 for my xp-60 ten years ago and it has better keys.I also got a kurz last year for 700 and it has real keys. obviously you havent ventured away from Roland and thats just being a fanboy.and I mean opposed to any Korg or Kurz. Thats all I have to say.

Please be careful with words like that, this is an official warning.
Children, children, let's not get off topic. It may be there are better keybeds out there. The thing is, not everyone is a bloody pianist with fingers to match, nor do I recall it being in list of concerns OP had.
One point to make, the difference in price btwn the Juno G and Di is far less than $500 and noone mentioned the availability of SRX expansion in the G.
Actually the Juno-Di does have a full 16 part performance mode. Using the synth by itself you get 16 parts with 2 MFX. Using it with the software editor you can gain another MFX bringing the total up to 3 MFX per performance set.
