mic extension doesnt work with DP-10 on G7?

I just received this 6' microphone extension cable I'd ordered because the cable from my DP-10 sustain pedal isn't long enough:

It doesn't seem to work when I plug the DP-10 into the extension cable. I don't hear any sustain. When I put the DP-10 directly into the G7, I can hear the sustain. Not only that, but the part where the DP-10 cable joins with the extension cable (the mating point) seems to be quite warm to the touch.
Do I need a different type of cable as an extension for the DP-10?
