I think Im moving on :(

Hello fellow clan members. Im afraid I am going to move on from using the fantom X6. I love this machine to death and it has helped me land 7 television Placements in 1 year. But now Im considering An Open Labs Miko EC5.

The fantom does not fit my lifestyle anymore. I'm working 2 jobs with a family so I cannot afford to waste time recording the ENTIRE instrumental to my VERY CHEAP PC laptop (only to find glitches when I playback the music, and then i have to start all over again...and Yes Ive tried re-sampling within the fantom but THAT ALSO TAKES FOREVER to save. I was hoping for an OS update that would just export my songs to a wav file at least under 1 minute, BUT no dice....

I need to be able to render my production to a wav./MP3 within a few seconds and email it to clients and A&R's all in one shot. Not to mention the storage is unbelievable (up to 2 TB with 4GB of ram) as appose to 1GB that takes hours to load.

Now, Im not knocking the fantom X or G. Im Just trying to speed up the workflow.... I will most likely still keep it, but it will not be my my 1stop shop workstation.

I haven't purchased the Miko yet but I doubt I will be posting much else in reguards to the fantom anymore.......Also I just wanted to Thank all the members on here for the support through the years such as:

Artimey
(BTW I bought the Tweakbook 5th edtion when it first came out but never got to use it. Too busy loading my samples LOL Just kidding) Thanks for your expert advice. I really appreciate the help...

( also thanks to PiaKnow/Diametro/Jessie J/ Quinxx/Andy Keys

and Yes, even you Secret Roland Agent!!!!!)

The Open Labs products seem pretty rock solid. Lot of features, and pre-installed software customized. The only drawback is the keyboard itself in my opinion, it's good for everything except pianos. I would advise that if your pretty demanding buy a Numa masterkeyboard or at least a Yamaha CP33 and connect it to the Miko, Nekko, etc.
But otherwise, i think you're going with the most reliable choice.

P.S.: If you can tell your experience with Open Labs. I've tried the Receptor 2 Pro but i'm always at the lookout. Thanks.

I dont really mind the keyboard since im only a pop/urban producer anyway. I dont really need the weighted as im not much of a pianist. Also i just found out i can clone the fantom x via Mimik softwawre with the miko. (any instrument with all the expression velocities) Now im definately getting it. I will definately post my experience with it once i get the hang of things

at this moment, for reason 4 exist 4 banks with all the fantom-x programs (sounds).
But they are just 127 velocity sampled.
Any way, if you have HDD spaec and a good sound card, try the software from CDXtract : Samplit.
And you can customize the sampling method. ;)
Do not ever be ashamed of what you are, what you feel, and what you think. The truth hurts, but it is necessary.

@ Mr. Claudio

If the Open Labs products suits you then no problem but first I would say have you really tried them out?

And at the moment the Fantom X still have a good price on second hand market.

Hi Mr.Claudio,
I wish you all the best on both personal and professional levels !!
.
There are 2 things that I would like you to tell me, if you don't mind:
- Even as a future Miko owner, why leaving the forum ? This forum is not only about Roland, and No... We won't bite Miko users ;-)
- Do you really tried it ? Do you really need a one-stop-shop device ? Isn't a good DAW a good choice either ?
All-in-one devices tend to be limited...
Just a thought...

Take care,
Has been a pleasure

I notice a bit of hesitation with the post. I sort of understand where you are coming from and it does make some sense that the Open Labs gear could be an interesting all-in-one package. However, while I hope it works out great for your music, I have to be really skeptical. It maybe true that 37 keys is all you need and you have the X still, but I have a lot of concerns about a new machine that size and specs from two years ago.

I would be a bit more hyped if you were moving into a Neko 5XL, but even then I would feel obligated to offer a price/value comparison. I mean for nearly $3000 you can easily do away with your slow PC, have a DAW or two, and then some more.

I can't say what is best for you tho, and there is a lot to consider, just keep in mind you still might need some extra plugins to get it done.

One question I ask you to ask, what do you do when it breaks? A desktop PC, you replace and upgrade the parts yourself, a laptop - you throw away, a synth you hope doesn't ever break and send it off if it eventually does. I'm just not sure where these boxes fit in.

At any rate, good luck, best wishes and hope all goes well!!! Great to hear your life and music is moving forward too. Enjoy.

No, no! I can feel now that Jim Stout's Japanese-taught mind manipulation skills have been put to good use at Open Labs...

I PLAYED WITH THE NICO AND MICO AT GUUITAR CENTER AUSTIN TX. IT SEEMED OVERKILL WITH TO MUCH SOFTWARE TO LEARN. SLIDERS, POTS, AND KEYBOARD FELT VERY CHEAP. I WOULD BUY A LAPTOP WITH PROPER SOFTWARE APPS AND FANTOM FOR YOUR WORK. NECO/MECO ARE ALSO VERY EXPENSIVE.

GOOD LUCK

JON
