I need opinions about SRX comparisions....

I have both and like them both. There are some really nice and realistic string ensembles on SRX-04 that you won't find on SRX-06 but that has some nice ones too.

I've had SRX-06 for a long time and only recently added SRX-04 to my rig after listening to some of the demo's on the Roland website. and also because I was also gonna order SRX-07 (Ultimate Keys) anyway so I thought what the heck let's get both.

I haven't really explored SRX-04 and have not compared it directly to SRX-06 because I'm in the middle of recording a CD so what I've been doing is "I need a string sound let's try the new card". I'm pretty sure I'm currently using strings from both the internal as well as SRX-04 and SRX-06 on the recordings but I haven't really kept track (no pun intended).

I do believe that some of the SRX-04 patches are a bit more realistic sounding than those on SRX-06 but again I have not done any direct A/B comparisons as I've only been 'working' with it, not playing and fooling around.

The big advantage of SRX-06 is that is has some really great large choir sounds and also very nice ensembles with both horns and strings and stuff like that which makes for a very grand majestic sound. Play a few nice moving chords and it sounds like you're listening to the Lord of the Rings soundtrack or some other movie.

It's because of these other non-string sounds that I would choose SRX-06 if I could only afford one but if you are interested in strings and strings only I'd get SRX-04.

The large choir sounds are probably my major reason (but not the only) for not switching to the Fantom G, they are that good imo. The G is sorely lacking in that department.

EDIT: Fixed typo's

SRX 06 - "Complete Orchestra" - is the first one in the "SR-JV80 Collection" series (it's called "vol. 1"). On the other hand, SRX 04 "Symphonique Strings" is making use of "original material" (if we can say so, meaning that the waveforms are not the same as those on the JV80 boards). Considering this, I guess that theoretically SRX 04 should be better in terms of realism for the strings sounds (even though, to be fair enough, I don't own any of them). I guess you should be concentrating hard on auditioning as many demos you can.

I have both SRX cards and as stated they have diferent strong points. The 06 is focused on strings as an ensemble so it's biggest lack is in the expression variety, and solo instruments quality. The 04 is focused on solo instruments mainly, wich do have some nice variety expression and dynamic; but the ensemble are less strong sounding.
I had also noticed the detail that G-Man pointed, that the sample soundset doesn't seem similar, being that the SRX 04 has a different room ambience and timbre (for me more realistic).
My opinion: if you have the money get both; if not get the 06 because it's a better all-rounder.

karlosserio, saying that 04 is focused on solo instruments really means "solo" (individual) orchestral instruments (violin, viola, cello, contre-basse) ? Or "solo" sections of the orchestra? (like violin ensemble, viola ensemble and so on)
I was eyeing SRX 06 too (already got SRX 03 at a discount price) but I'd like some nice solo violin and cello among other solo patches too.

P.S. The SRX 03 surprised me in so many ways. there are lots to say but what baffles me (in a negative note) is that a "studio" - clamored card has a lot of guitar patches but little (or sometimes worse - none) other "meat - and - potatoes" patches. Does that mean a keyboarder is going to spend more time in a studio impersonating guitarists or what? Too damn many guitar patches on those SRX cards and I'm not afraid to say it again and again!

I ment that SRX 04 is focused on solo instrument as solo violin, viola, cello. It has some nice ensembles that are realistic but not "fat" sounding.
For me, and not being against Roland sounds the best strings on hardware are Kurzweil, hands down. On a stage theres no comparison.
