Leslie speed on/off with Foot Pedal ?

Leslie speed on/off with Foot Pedal ?

12 Aug 2009, 02:54
Hello all.
How to switch leslie speed on/off with foot pedal for organ sounds?

By Nord Electro I press foot pedal on (and release it) and Leslie speed is fast, then i press foot pedal again (and release it) and Leslie speed is slow - that's OK.

By FG (OS 1.3; Input: Foot Pedal CTRL 2; Knob 4 Assign CC04 Foot Type) i must hold foot pedal on all the time for fast speed - when i release pedal, the speed is slow again...

Is possible to set controllers so, that foot pedal react like by Nord?
Any help is appreciated.

(sorry for bad english)

You could use an on-off type pedal, not an expression pedal.

Yes, i use an on-off type pedal and the same pedal works fine on Nord Electro (also sustain foot pedal can work on Nord that way) ... (???)

i tried this but didnt work because i dont knew/know how i have to route by special internal setting this foot pedal switch (-jack) to switch S1 (effect) on/off...

I can't try this because I do not have such a pedal myself. But I expect this pedal to send a MIDI CC value of 0 when it's off, and send a value of 127 when it's on. Therefore, in the PFX control section you'd assign FOOT-TYPE to control leslie speed with a depth of +63, and it should work.

Of course it works. I tried this with my Boss FV-300L and it works just fine. Once the CC value is from 0 to 63, the leslie is switched to one speed (whether it is slow or fast, it depends on what settings you have in your PFX). From 64 to 127, it switches to the other speed. It's just as you would do if you wanted to control sustain pedal with a foot pedal.
It's just a pure waste of CC resolution. Leslie speed needs only two values, so this can be done with a switch pedal too.
You can assign the controller you want, as long as the pedal transmits the same MIDI CC that you have assigned into the PFX MIDI control. For instance, you can assign MIDI CC01 to the pedal (CC01=Modulation), as most preset organ sounds are controlled with CC01 (or joystick Y-axis).
