Share Fantom X Tips
11 Jul 2009, 17:24I had a tip I wanted to share and I couldn't find another thread on here for the Fantom X. If there is one, you can move this thread.
Otherwise, here is the Fantom X Tips thread!
Something that plagued me for a long time was hearing distortion and popping after I normalized a sample. It took me a while to figure it out, all the time thinking it was the Normalize function that was to blame. If you get distortion, check the signal path. A couple of things fixed this for me, under Settings and Sound, the main output of the keyboard was too high, I just set the Master Level for 127, and the Gain for 0dB.
This brings me to my second tip. If you're mastering a song, you can of course sample it, then switch to Performance Mixer mode, and assign the sample to trk 1 on the keyboard. This will let you make use of all three MFX if you change their structure to say 123. Use compressors and enhancers to beef up the sound. If you're using more than one compressor, which I would recommend, turn down the post gain to about +2 on each for a more natural sounding compression. Then you can also resample the song through these effects and do the whole process over again. The thing to watch out for when doing this is that distortion again. Use headphones and at the highest level in the song, and adjust the fader on the mixer.
More tips would be welcome
