Let Me Introduce Myself!

Let Me Introduce Myself!

Hello All Fantomites,

I go by El Weezie, though I do not yet own a Roland Fantom series board, it it a pleasure to be a part of your forum. My current setup consists of a Fostex VF160, Rode NT1, EV 767a, Shure 57, Behringer ADA8000, Behringer VS2496, & Yamaha PSR 740 keyzz. The Yaw PSR is old and will be retired shortly, my new board will be the IMO... astonishing Fantom S or X 61 keyzz, I have not decided on which one yet. Another week or two of reading some of the post here and trips to guitar center after work and I should have it nailed down. I would appreciate any input from actual owners of either board! I am really excited about my pending purchase which by the way is "Our little secret, my wife doesn't have to know" at least not for a couple of weeks after the purchase!! I cannot wait to be "Fantomized"!

Best Wishes To All,
EL

El Weezie, I cannot speak for the s-61 but I can say that the s-88 is a truly remarkable keyboard. It is the first weighted keyboard I have ever played for more than just a minute or two and I cannot be more pleased with all it's features. I was disconcerted for a while when it did not work with my outdated win98 junk but this site has taught me at least a dozen work arounds for that issue. No matter whether you buy the S or the X, I think you will find this site PRICELESS for its contribution toward your learning of the board. Oh and just tell the wife it is for the good of the planet and could very well help prolong the life of mankind. That's what I did and don't tell REITA, because she actually fell for it. Welcome to the best forum I have ever participated in. Just another fantom junkie.

Welcome EL
Nice to have you with us!
I am a fantom-s owner since summer when I spent 2 months trying to decide whether to buy the triton st or motif es. I then noticed the fantom-s, had a go, found this site and that was that really. No regrets at all.

EL Weezie - welcome here!

I have a Fantom-S (61-key). You'll never find an instrument that will treat your ideas and emotions this right. I have never lost even a small part of my inspiration ever since I got the FS.

It's got the world's most killer set of MFX - one algorithm is worth ten rackmount units. It is simply unbelievable.

Whether you are a sound designer, music composer or both - you'll love the beast.

Once again - welcome aboard!

The Fanotm Manual

9 Mar 2004, 02:11
Hey P,

Thanks for the welcome, one of the few gripes against the fostex vf 160 is the horrible manual...terrible translation from japanese to english how is the roland manual. Am I in for a steep learning curve? Not that it matters, I'll just have to deal with it like I had to with my "Trusty" fostex, which I am still learning. But thanks to the great folks on the fostex user board my life was made easier with their help.

Thanks,
EL

El Weezie, the manual is a lousy translation to english but with it and this site, you will lack for nothing I promise. There are several threads in the forum regarding the manual and the bad english/japanese translation but there are so many Knowledgeable kids in here that you will start to think they all speak fluent japanese. Oh and one more thing, if that Ukranian kid Artemio says it, you can bet it is stone chiseling believable.

As for me, tha manual is very clear. Some people complained about it being too techy, for engineers. This is okay for me as this is the manual I need, as I myself an engineer :-) I think it is very simple even for newbies.

One suggestion is that you should rather try once than read how to do this or that ten times.
Again, thank you all for responses. I am sure I,ll get thru the manual thing with no problem. This site is chocked full of good information, I spent 3 hours earlier at work reading some of the post. To its creator...Artemio I presume, well done and continued success with this site. Well it is time for this old man to lie down and dream dreams. Too you all, good nite and my best wishes in all that you do!!!!!!

I would definitely be looking at the X. For the extra $500 (according to most music retail websites), you get so much: 128 note poly, color screen, PC card storage, new ROM waves, better operating pad bank, and probably a couple of other items I'm overlooking.

The X should be out be the end of this month according to a couple of retailers.

If finances dictate that the S must be purchased, I would wait a month or so after the release of the X. To me, the S now only becomes a value at maybe 50 - 60% the street price of the X.
