Price increase

10 Feb 2009, 05:00
Hello,

I noticed that the prices of the FG went up with almost 10 %. But the prices of the competition (yamaha XS, Korg M3) stayed the same, so I think the Yen or the Euro has nothing to do with it.
The FG is now the morst expensive compared to the other two.

Does anybody know a reason?

R.U.Doin: Which country are you reffering to and how did you buy it?

Here in Greece, the distributor sells the G6 at the same price I got it back in August, that's 1999 Euros suggested retail price. I got it way cheaper though, about 1750 Euros. It must be one of the cheapest prices in Europe.

Hello Cyclops.

I live in Holland and didn't buy anything yet. STill saving money and still not sure what board I should buy.
The price went up from €2149 to € 2399! That is even more than 10%!

R.U.Doin: It's really weird. You can find a brand-new Fantom-G6 here in Greece as low as 1696 Euros. I can't get it what's happening in the rest of Europe. Either out price is very low, or the rest of countries' prices are way too high.
I recall that one of the distributor's sellers here told me when I bought it that their goal is to sell the cheapest Roland products is Europe. Maybe that's why they sell so cheap. Even in thomann.de the G6 is priced 2299 Euros (with RRP at 2599 Euros).

Cyclops,

That there is a price difference between greece and Holland, that is obvious (any good internet shops in greece and will send to Holland)... but what I don't understand is why the prices in Holland (and Germany also) went up while the rest of the synths from Japan, are priced the same! And you're telling me that the prices in Greece stayed the same also.....

More than 10% raise is a lot......

The most weird is that the two competitor workstations (Korg M3 and Yamaha Motif-XS) don't appear to be so low priced here. They're priced as much as in other countries. This difference is found only in Roland product prices. For example, the Yamaha distributor in Greece (Nakas) sells Motif-XS6 for 2370 Euros and thomann.de sells it for 2375 Euros.

The XS6 can be found for € 2299 in holland, but the more common price is € 2349,--

"It's nice to see the value of ones equipment go up!"

Yeah, but it's a bummer if you didn't buy anything yet!

Hi I'm also from Greece and I bought the G6 back in November for 1700 euros. I had noticed the price difference in the past and I always wandered why the fantom g is so cheap in Greece!!

I think it might have something to do with the new OS coming soon.....

That must be a very good update, the price is now going up for 'value for money' reason.

Wake me up, I'm dreaming... ;o

I got my G8 for £2K all in, including a KS-G8 stand.

As I learn more and more about the G and progressively explore its capabilities, I find myself thinking about what a frigging steal it was. I am a very happy customer.

As an approximation of a grand there are few greater (when combined with external sounds) but there are a load of genuinely awesome synth sounds. The EPs are fantastic (even without the expansion) and the pipe organ live set is a fearsome sound - immense. Some of the pads are absolutely glorious, some of the leads are infinitely playable and the basses are thick and rich. It'll never be as good (read=tweakable) as real synthesis, or even virtual analog VSTs, but as something you can just lay on a track to twist it into a new shape... It's fantastic.

I don't use the sequencer much outside of making a sketch. The problem with the price going up is that it makes the excess you need to spend on a good DAW even greater. Can't wait to test out the proprietary convolution reverb in Cubase 5 on some of these sounds...

To see the price go up just heightens that feeling. I just feel sorry for those looking to make the purchase.

Seeing the price rising in some markets, I can only imagine what will happen if a version 2.0 comes around, in case it's an update like the Fantom-X's 2.0 which was not for free.

All said, I also consider the price I got it a real deal. I was considering to buy Fantom-X when I saw the Fantom-G's specs, cause I was thinking how much such a beast could cost. I never believed the salesman's voice when he told me the catalogue price of 1999 Euros. I expected at least 2500 or more for a G6. I even feel guilty for it sometimes! LOL :-P

Well if you placed the orther before the increase your order confirmation should have the original price which you will be charged. This should be the lower one..
